The bright stage lights flickered off as the final chords of their last song echoed through the arena. Seungmo stood backstage, his heart racing, but the cheers of the fans still rang in his ears. He felt a mixture of relief and anxiety wash over him. It had been an exhilarating performance, one that had set the audience ablaze with excitement, but beneath his brave facade, he felt a storm brewing.
"Great job, everyone!" Kamden, the leader, exclaimed, clapping his hands together as the members gathered around. Seungmo managed a smile, but it felt strained.
"Let's do a quick debrief, then we can grab dinner!" Brian suggested, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. The other members nodded, eager to celebrate their success. But Seungmo felt the urge to escape, to retreat into solitude. The weight of their busy schedules, endless rehearsals, and expectations loomed over him like a dark cloud.
"Uh, I'm just going to grab my water bottle," Seungmo said, his voice shaking slightly as he turned away from the group.
"Okay, but hurry back!" Jiho called after him, his voice filled with concern.
Seungmo nodded absently, forcing a smile as he walked away, heart pounding in his chest. He needed a moment—just a moment—where he could breathe without the pressure of his image bearing down on him.
Once he was out of sight, Seungmo found a quiet corner backstage. He leaned against the cold wall and closed his eyes, trying to steady his racing heart. Each beat felt louder than the last, echoing in his ears like a warning bell. He took a deep breath, but the air felt thick and suffocating.
"Why do I feel like this?" he whispered to himself, gripping the fabric of his shirt tightly. Seungmo had always been sensitive, but now it felt like his emotions were a chaotic storm, threatening to overwhelm him.
The days blurred into nights as the promotional schedule continued, and Seungmo wore his mask of cheerfulness. He danced, laughed, and joked with his members, but inside, he felt like he was fading away. The anxiety clawed at him, growing stronger with each passing day.
He tried to hide it. Whenever the cameras were rolling, he would put on his best smile, immersing himself in the moment, but once the lights dimmed and the crowd cheered their goodbyes, the facade would slip. He'd retreat to his room, avoiding any interaction, letting the waves of anxiety crash over him in solitude.
One night, after a grueling rehearsal, Seungmo lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. His heart raced as he thought about the upcoming concert. What if he forgot the choreography? What if the fans could see through his smile? The anxiety spiraled, tightening its grip around his chest.
In his heart, he knew he should talk to someone, anyone, but the fear of being a burden paralyzed him. He didn't want to bring his hyungs down; they had enough on their plates already.
The next day, the group had an early start for a fan meeting. Seungmo put on his brave face, smiling and waving at the fans as they entered the venue. He interacted with the fans, but as the event wore on, he felt the familiar knot in his stomach tightening.
"Seungmo, smile more!" Siyun encouraged, nudging him playfully. "You're doing great!"
"Yeah! You're the star today!" Kyrell added, flashing a bright smile.
Seungmo smiled back, though it felt forced. As they posed for photos and answered questions, he felt himself growing increasingly anxious. The noise, the flashing lights, and the energy of the crowd became overwhelming.
After the event, the group returned to the practice room for their late-night rehearsal. Seungmo could feel the tension in the air as they prepared to go over their new choreography. He had been excited about it at first, but now the thought of performing made his heart race with panic.
