San had always been known for his boundless energy and charismatic stage presence. His smile was like a beacon for fans, and his laughter was a source of comfort for his fellow members. But on this particular night, as ATEEZ wrapped up their tour in Tokyo, San's usual vibrance was overshadowed by a quiet struggle.
It began with a slight tickle in his throat, which he dismissed as just a minor irritation. But as the days passed, the tickle grew into a persistent cough, accompanied by a deep-seated fatigue that made even the smallest tasks seem monumental. He had hoped that a few days of rest would be enough, but his condition only seemed to worsen.
The group had just finished a packed schedule and were heading back to their hotel. San leaned against the bus window, eyes half-closed, feeling the overwhelming exhaustion that had begun to settle in his bones. Mingi, sitting beside him, glanced over with a concerned frown.
"San, are you okay?" Mingi's voice was filled with genuine worry.
"Yeah, just a little tired," San replied, trying to muster a reassuring smile. But Mingi wasn't convinced.
"Come on, let's get you checked out when we get back. You don't look so good."
San waved off the concern. "I'm fine. Just need some rest."
Back at the hotel, San shuffled into his room and collapsed onto the bed, trying to ignore the growing ache in his body. His fever was climbing, and his throat felt like it was on fire. The worst part was the feeling of helplessness; he knew he should be the one supporting the group, not the other way around.
Hongjoong, always perceptive to his members' needs, knocked softly on San's door before stepping inside. "Hey, you need to see a doctor. You're burning up."
San tried to protest, but the truth was undeniable. "Alright, alright," he groaned, reluctantly agreeing.
The group's manager arranged for a visit to a nearby clinic, and San was soon in a small examination room, feeling the weight of his illness press down on him. The doctor, a kind-faced woman, examined him carefully before giving her diagnosis.
"You have a severe case of bronchitis," she said gently. "It's good you came in when you did. You need plenty of rest and medication to help with the inflammation and cough."
San nodded, feeling a wave of relief mixed with dread. The idea of being confined to bed while the group continued their activities made him uneasy, but he knew he had no choice. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and advised him to stay hydrated and avoid any strenuous activities.
When they returned to the hotel, the other members were waiting anxiously. Seonghwa was the first to approach, his eyes filled with concern. "How did it go?"
"Bronchitis," San replied, his voice barely above a whisper. "I've got medication and I need to rest."
The group's manager and the members quickly rallied around him, setting up a small makeshift infirmary in San's room. Yunho and Yeosang brought in extra blankets and a portable humidifier, while Wooyoung and Hongjoong made sure San had everything he needed to stay comfortable.
San was touched by the outpouring of care. Despite his discomfort, he found solace in their support. The first night was difficult; he struggled with a restless sleep, the coughing attacks persistent and the fever relentless. But his members stayed close, offering comfort and checking on him regularly.
The following day, the tour schedule was adjusted to accommodate San's condition. The group's manager made sure that their activities were light and that San could rest without feeling like he was holding anyone back. The other members took turns keeping him company, reading to him, and making him soup.
Despite their efforts, San's condition remained fragile. The antibiotics began to take effect, but it was a slow process. His energy was still depleted, and the simple act of sitting up in bed left him exhausted. However, the encouragement and kindness from his group kept his spirits from completely sinking.
One evening, as San lay propped up in bed with a stack of get-well-soon cards from fans, San's gaze fell on Hongjoong, who was sitting beside him. "Hongjoong-hyung," San said quietly, "I'm sorry for being such a burden."
Hongjoong shook his head firmly. "You're not a burden, Sannie. We're a team, and we look out for each other. Just focus on getting better. We need you."
San's eyes softened with gratitude. "Thank you. I just hate feeling so useless."
"You're not useless," Hongjoong reassured him. "We all have our moments. This is just yours right now."
The members' constant presence and encouragement began to lift San's spirits. Slowly but surely, his health started to improve. The fever subsided, and the coughing attacks became less frequent. He was still weak and tired, but he was able to join the members for brief periods, sharing meals and conversations.
On the last day of their tour, San was finally able to make a short appearance at the concert venue, supported by the other members. The fans erupted in cheers when they saw him, their love and support evident. Though he didn't perform, being there with his bandmates and feeling the energy of the crowd was a huge boost to his morale.
As the tour wrapped up and they headed back to South Korea, San was on the mend but still had a ways to go. The members continued to care for him, ensuring he didn't push himself too hard. Their support had made a significant difference in his recovery, and San was deeply moved by their dedication.
In the end, San realized that while he might have been physically unwell, the strength of his team had been a powerful remedy for his spirit. He knew that with such unwavering support, he would be able to overcome any challenge that came his way.
As they returned home, San's health continued to improve, and he looked forward to rejoining the group fully. The experience had strengthened their bond and reminded San of the importance of mutual support and care within their team.
And so, despite the struggles and discomfort, San emerged from the ordeal with a renewed appreciation for his members and a deeper understanding of the strength found in unity.
