Junhui had always been the kind of person who never let anyone down. Whether it was on stage or during practice, he pushed himself to his limits, giving everything he had to his fans and his group, Seventeen. Lately, though, something was wrong. At first, it was just a dull ache in his muscles after a long day of rehearsals. Nothing out of the ordinary, he thought. After all, they had been working non-stop for their world tour, and some soreness was to be expected.
But the ache didn't go away.
It worsened, spreading from his legs to his arms and back. His joints would stiffen painfully after sitting for too long, and getting up from a chair became a task that required more effort than it should. Still, Jun didn't say anything. He figured he could handle it, that it was just temporary. They had worked too hard for him to start complaining now.
The tour was everything they had dreamed of: sold-out arenas, fans screaming their names, their music touching hearts across the world. Each night, Jun performed with his usual grace and energy, even as the pain in his body increased. He masked it with smiles, refusing to let anyone see just how much it was taking out of him. The others didn't seem to notice. He made sure they didn't.
But the flights between cities were becoming unbearable. The cramped airplane seats left his body stiff and aching, and when they arrived at the next city, the pain had settled deep into his muscles, making every movement feel like a battle. On stage, he was still the same Jun, his dancing flawless, his vocals steady, but backstage, he felt like he was falling apart.
Minghao, his roommate and close friend, had started to notice the little things. The way Jun would sit down slower than usual, how he'd wince when he thought no one was looking, the way he always seemed to linger in the shower longer, as if the hot water was the only thing keeping him from collapsing. Minghao had asked him about it a few times, but Jun brushed it off with a smile. "Just a bit sore," he'd say. "I'll be fine."
But as the tour went on, it became harder for Jun to hide it. After each performance, his muscles screamed at him in protest. His legs felt like lead, his back ached with every breath, and even his hands hurt when he held a pen to sign autographs. Still, he pushed through, telling himself that he just needed to get through this tour. Then he could rest.
That night, after their most intense performance yet, Jun could feel his body reaching its breaking point. He had barely made it through the encore without his legs giving out beneath him. The cheers of the fans filled his ears, and the adrenaline had kept him going until the very last bow. But as soon as they were backstage, the pain hit him like a freight train.
The ride back to the hotel felt like a blur. He barely spoke to anyone, keeping his head down and his body as still as possible. The moment they arrived at the hotel, Jun headed straight for the bathroom, hoping that a long, hot shower would ease the pain. But when he tried to stand up from the edge of the tub, his legs gave out beneath him.
He collapsed onto the cold tile floor, a gasp escaping his lips as the pain shot through his entire body. His muscles spasmed uncontrollably, and he could feel his joints locking up, refusing to let him move. His vision blurred with tears he hadn't meant to cry, and he bit his lip to stop himself from calling out.
But Minghao had heard the thud. He knocked on the bathroom door, concern in his voice. "Jun-hyung? You okay in there?"
When there was no answer, Minghao's heart raced. Without thinking, he pushed the door open, and his breath caught in his throat at the sight of Jun curled up on the floor, shaking with pain.
"Jun-hyung!" Minghao rushed to his side, kneeling beside him. "What's going on? What happened?"
Jun tried to smile through the pain, but it came out as more of a grimace. "I... I'm fine, Hao. Just... I just need a minute."
