Jeonghan woke up that morning with an odd, dull ache in his stomach. It wasn't unbearable, just a low, persistent discomfort that made him groggy as he shuffled out of bed. He rubbed his belly absently as he went through his morning routine, brushing his teeth and getting dressed, but the ache lingered. It wasn't something that particularly alarmed him—just a bit of stress or perhaps something he ate the night before. No big deal, he thought.
He arrived at the practice room to find the other members already gathered, stretching and warming up. The energy was typical of any day of rehearsal—loud, filled with banter, and upbeat. But Jeonghan could feel a slight unease settle in as the pain in his stomach remained constant, though not enough to distract him from the day's tasks.
"Morning, hyung!" Joshua greeted him with his usual bright smile, clapping him on the back. "You okay? You look a little tired."
Jeonghan forced a smile. "Just a bit of a stomach ache. I think it's nothing. Probably just the stress," he waved it off nonchalantly, hiding his discomfort behind a mask of cheerfulness. "I'm good, don't worry."
Joshua narrowed his eyes slightly, studying Jeonghan for a moment before nodding, though his expression held an air of concern. "Well, if you say so."
As practice began, the ache in Jeonghan's stomach remained, but it wasn't anything that interrupted his ability to rehearse. He hit his notes as usual, and the choreography was familiar to him, his body moving fluidly despite the dull ache beneath his ribs. But as the hours passed, the discomfort began to intensify, turning into sharper pangs that caught him off guard.
A few times during a particularly complex part of the routine, he had to pause for a moment to catch his breath, feeling the tightness in his stomach making it hard to breathe fully. Still, he told himself it would pass. It always did, didn't it?
"Jeonghan hyung, you okay?" Woozi asked, noticing the way Jeonghan stood a little straighter after each movement, his face clouded with concentration and discomfort.
Jeonghan gave a small wave of his hand. "Yeah, just tired. I think I'm fine." He didn't want to draw attention to it. He didn't want to seem weak.
Woozi didn't push the issue, but Jeonghan could tell his friend wasn't entirely convinced. The rest of the members, focused on their practice, didn't notice the subtle shifts in Jeonghan's mood—how he was starting to lean on the walls more frequently, pressing his hand to his stomach when he thought no one was looking.
By lunchtime, the ache had evolved. It was no longer dull; now, it was a sharp stabbing pain that pulsed with each breath. Jeonghan sat down on one of the benches, clutching his stomach, hoping that the food would help settle it.
But it didn't. In fact, the moment he ate, a wave of nausea surged up his throat, and he quickly excused himself to the bathroom.
The cold tile under his feet was a relief as he leaned over the sink, swallowing down the bile that rose in his throat. He hadn't expected it to get worse. The nausea only continued to escalate, making him feel weak and dizzy.
"Hyung?" a voice called softly from the doorway. It was Joshua, his tone full of concern. "Are you alright?"
Jeonghan straightened up, wiping his mouth quickly and attempting to put on a brave face. "It's fine, Joshua. Really. It's just a stomach ache. I think I ate something bad."
Joshua didn't seem convinced, but he didn't push. Instead, he gave Jeonghan a small, worried smile and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Alright. But if it gets worse, don't hesitate to let us know, okay?"
