Dohoon had always prided himself on being resilient. As an all-rounder for TWS, his role in the group was vital. Whether it was singing, dancing, or performing his heart out on stage, Dohoon made sure to give it everything he had. So when he woke up feeling unwell the morning of their big performance, he brushed off the dizziness and the pounding in his head. There was no time to be sick.
The group had a significant showcase tonight, with fans expecting a flawless performance. Dohoon couldn't afford to let anyone down-not his members, not the fans, and certainly not himself.
"Are you okay?" Kyungmin, the youngest member, asked as Dohoon finished another sip of water, trying to keep his throat from feeling so dry.
"I'm fine," Dohoon lied, flashing his best reassuring smile. "Just a little tired."
Kyungmin nodded, though concern still lingered in his eyes. It wasn't unusual for Dohoon to push himself, and the younger members always admired his dedication. But Kyungmin had a bad feeling.
By the time the group arrived at the venue, Dohoon could feel the exhaustion settling deep into his bones. His throat was raw, his limbs heavy, but he forced himself to push through. They had a full setlist to perform, and he wasn't going to back down now.
In the dressing room, Junghwan and Youngjae were going over choreography, while Hanjin was tuning his guitar. Jihoon, always the keen observer, glanced at Dohoon, noticing the faint trembling in his friend's hands as he adjusted his mic.
"You sure you're good, Dohoon-hyung?" Jihoon asked, keeping his voice low so the others wouldn't overhear.
"Yeah," Dohoon replied, wiping sweat from his forehead. "It's nothing, just nerves."
Jihoon didn't believe him, but he knew better than to push. Dohoon was stubborn when it came to his responsibilities. Instead, he just nodded and silently promised to keep an eye on him during the performance.
As the minutes ticked closer to showtime, Dohoon felt like he was running on fumes. His heart pounded not from excitement, but from the fever he was trying to ignore. Every inch of his body ached, and his vision blurred slightly when he stood up too fast. Still, he plastered a smile on his face and headed to the stage with his group.
Backstage, the atmosphere was electric with the buzz of staff rushing around, preparing for the show. Dohoon kept his head down, trying to focus on his breathing, but it felt like there was a weight pressing down on his chest, making it hard to take full breaths.
And then, out of the corner of his eye, Dohoon saw a familiar figure leaning against the wall, arms crossed, a slight smirk on his face.
"Seeun-ssi?"
Dohoon's eyes widened, his surprise momentarily overpowering the fatigue. Seeun, one of his closest friends from Xikers, waved at him, the mischievous glint in his eyes softening into concern as he took in Dohoon's pale complexion.
"What are you doing here?" Dohoon asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Seeun approached, a knowing look in his eyes. "I know you, Dohoon. You push yourself way too hard. I had a feeling you'd still try to perform even if you were on death's door."
Dohoon scoffed weakly. "I'm fine. It's just a cold."
Seeun didn't look convinced, but before he could argue, a staff member signaled that it was time for TWS to go on stage. Dohoon gave his friend a small, grateful nod before heading out with his group.
As the lights dimmed and the intro music filled the arena, Dohoon steeled himself. The adrenaline kicked in, masking some of the worst of the aches and pains, and for a brief moment, he almost believed he could pull this off.
