The rain had come out of nowhere, a sudden downpour that drenched Yuki as he walked along the quiet street. It was late, much later than he should have been out, but the fresh air had been calling him after the intense week of promotional activities. Yuki needed space, a break from the noise and the cameras, a moment to himself where he didn’t have to be the maknae of NEXZ, the smiling, ever-cheerful vocalist who never let anything weigh him down.

The sky had been clear when he left, but the rain now fell in heavy sheets, soaking through his jacket, his hoodie, and his jeans. Yuki shivered but kept walking. He had too much on his mind to turn back yet. His chest had been bothering him lately, tight and heavy, but he hadn’t told anyone. They were all so busy, preparing for their comeback, and he didn’t want to be the one to slow them down.

His breath caught as he thought about their schedules, about how much pressure he was feeling lately. It wasn’t just the physical exhaustion—it was the weight of expectations, the fear that he wasn’t living up to his role in the group. Yuki shook his head, trying to clear the thoughts away, but they clung to him as persistently as the cold rain.

When he finally turned back toward the dorms, his clothes were soaked through, and his limbs felt heavy. His body was starting to ache in a way that was unfamiliar, a deep, throbbing exhaustion that settled in his bones. He shrugged it off, though. It was just a little rain. He’d be fine.

But when Yuki woke up the next morning, his head was pounding, and his throat burned. His entire body was trembling with chills, and the sweat that soaked his sheets didn’t help the cold that seemed to grip his skin. He groaned as he sat up, his vision swimming slightly as the room tilted.

“Yuki?” a voice called from outside his room, followed by a soft knock. “Are you up?”

It was Haru. Yuki forced himself to sit up straighter and clear his throat, hoping to sound normal. “Yeah, I’m up.”

The door creaked open, and Haru poked his head in, eyes immediately narrowing at the sight of Yuki sitting in bed, pale and shivering. “You don’t look up. Are you okay?”

Yuki hesitated, not wanting to cause any trouble. “I’m fine. Just a little cold.”

Haru didn’t look convinced, but before he could say anything, So Geon appeared behind him, peeking over his shoulder. “What’s going on? Why is Yuki still in bed?”

“I’m fine,” Yuki repeated, trying to sound more convincing, but his voice came out weak and hoarse. So Geon’s eyes widened, and he stepped into the room, crossing his arms as he looked Yuki over.

“You don’t look fine, Yuki. You’re shivering.”

Yuki groaned inwardly. Of course, they would notice. His hyungs always noticed when something was off. But he couldn’t afford to be sick now. There were interviews, performances, fan meetings—he couldn’t miss any of it. The team needed him.

“I just got caught in the rain last night,” Yuki said, attempting a small smile. “It’s nothing. I’ll be fine after some rest.”

Haru exchanged a glance with So Geon before stepping closer, his brow furrowing with concern. He put his hand on Yuki's forehead, “Yuki, you’re burning up. You should have said something earlier.”

“I didn’t want to worry anyone,” Yuki admitted, his voice quieter now. He hated feeling like a burden, especially when he knew how hard everyone else was working. “I can still go to practice. I just need a little time to—”

“No,” So Geon interrupted firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument. “You’re staying in bed. I’ll get you some water and medicine. Haru, can you call the manager and let him know Yuki’s not going to make it today?”
