Seokjin sat in the doctor's office, his mind reeling as the words settled in. The air felt too thick, the room too small, the fluorescent lights too harsh. He was only vaguely aware of Namjoon's hand gripping his shoulder beside him, his leader as pale and still as he was. But the words were clear.
"You have cancer."
The diagnosis hung between them, a heavy presence that seemed to consume the very air in the room. The doctor's face was compassionate but firm, delivering the information with practiced solemnity. The word itself sent waves of panic through Seokjin's chest, like something unnamable had broken free inside of him, clawing to get out. Cancer. The thing that destroys lives, that upends everything.
"Hyung," Namjoon whispered, voice trembling but steady. "We'll get through this. I promise."
Seokjin forced a nod, but he was barely present. His mind flashed to the others: Yoongi, Hoseok, Jimin, Taehyung, Jungkook. How would they react? What would this mean for them? For BTS?
The appointment ended in a blur, with instructions about upcoming tests, treatment options, and a stack of paperwork that felt like a cruel mockery of what had just been said. They left the office, walking through the hospital in silence, Seokjin too numb to form any words.
Back at the dorm, the other members were waiting, their usual laughter and conversation noticeably absent. They knew something was wrong. The second Seokjin and Namjoon walked through the door, the atmosphere shifted.
Jungkook was the first to stand, his face tight with worry. "Hyung?"
Seokjin swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry. He couldn't do this. He couldn't say the words out loud. Thankfully, Namjoon stepped forward, his expression heavy.
"Jin's been diagnosed with... cancer."
The room seemed to freeze, as if time itself had stopped. Yoongi, who rarely showed his emotions openly, blinked in shock, his usually calm exterior cracking just slightly. Hoseok's hand flew to his mouth, his eyes wide and filling with unshed tears. Taehyung looked as though the wind had been knocked out of him, his breath caught in his chest. Jimin's lips parted, but no words came out, his face a picture of disbelief.
Jungkook, the youngest, stared at Seokjin, his eyes filled with fear. "H-Hyung, no..."
Seokjin couldn't bear it. The looks on their faces made it real, too real. And he wasn't ready to face that.
"I don't... I don't want to talk about it," Seokjin mumbled, retreating to his room before anyone could stop him.
The following weeks were brutal. The doctors put Seokjin through a battery of tests: scans, bloodwork, biopsies. Every appointment brought more questions, more uncertainty. The worst part wasn't even the treatments that had already started—the invasive chemotherapy sessions that left him weak and nauseous—but the waiting. Waiting for results, waiting for answers, waiting to know what came next.
Through it all, the members remained by his side, though Seokjin hated how much of a burden he felt. He saw the way Yoongi stayed up late, researching alternative treatments when everyone thought he was working on music. He noticed how Hoseok plastered on his brightest smiles during their limited schedules, only to retreat to the bathroom to cry when he thought no one would notice.
Taehyung and Jimin clung to him the most, staying close even when he had nothing to say, sitting by his bedside in silence or bringing him whatever food he could stomach. Jungkook, ever the maknae, looked at Seokjin like he was about to break, as if Jungkook couldn't handle the thought of his eldest hyung suffering. It tore Seokjin apart to see the pain etched on their faces, but he didn't know how to make it better.
