The night before the concert, the atmosphere in the van was electric. The members of Seventeen had just wrapped up a grueling day of rehearsals and soundchecks, and they were looking forward to putting on an unforgettable show for their fans the next day. Everyone was excited, their spirits high with anticipation for the performance that was just hours away. The van, their familiar space during travels, was filled with the sounds of their laughter and stories. As they journeyed to the venue, it was a time for everyone to unwind and relax after a long day of work. DK, Mingyu and The8 had a late schedule and were travelling to the venue separately to the members.

DK, Seventeen's main vocalist, sat in the back seat beside Mingyu, the rapper and visual, both of them dozing off despite the music on the radio playing softly around them. DK, usually known for his endless energy, had worn himself out during rehearsals, and he hadn't even realized how much he needed rest until he had drifted off. Mingyu, ever the laid-back and tall figure, had his long legs sprawled lazily across the seat, his head resting against the window. His usual carefree demeanor was softened by the quiet of the moment.

The8, the lead dancer and youngest member among the three, '97 Liners,—DK, Mingyu, and himself—sat in the front passenger seat. Despite his exhaustion, he was wide awake, his eyes flicking between the road and the rearview mirror. His mind was abuzz with thoughts about the show ahead, the performance they had all worked so hard for. He had always considered himself the protector of his group, the one who would look out for the others in times like this, when they were nearing their destination but still had a long road ahead of them. He quietly observed the two older members, feeling a sense of warmth from the bond they shared, but also a faint restlessness in his chest as he thought about what was to come.

The van was filled with a comfortable silence, the hum of the engine and the occasional sound of a member shifting in their sleep. But in the blink of an eye, the tranquility was shattered.

Without warning, the van was jerked violently to the side, the tires screeching against the pavement. The8's heart skipped a beat as he glanced out the window, seeing another car barreling toward them in a desperate attempt to avoid the collision. Time seemed to slow in those crucial moments, and The8 acted purely on instinct. He barely thought before throwing himself over DK and Mingyu, his body crashing into them just as the van swerved, spinning out of control.

The impact was brutal, violent—a shockwave of force that sent everything inside the van flying in all directions. For a moment, it felt like everything had paused, a horrifying stillness descending over them.

And then, there was the groan—the first sound that broke the quiet.

DK's eyes fluttered open, disoriented by the crash. His vision was blurry, and the air smelled of burning rubber and smoke. He coughed, trying to shake off the grogginess, but his body felt like it had been jolted awake by the impact. His mind raced to process the situation, his heart pounding as he realized the gravity of what had just happened.

The van had flipped onto its side, its tires screeching as they came to a halt. Mingyu lay beside him, his head resting awkwardly against the seat, blood trickling down from a deep gash on his forehead. His breathing was shallow, his body unresponsive for a moment, but he was alive. That was the only thing that mattered to DK at that instant.

DK's gaze then shifted to The8, who was crumpled against him, his body twisted in a way that made DK's stomach churn. His arm was bent at an unnatural angle, and his face was contorted in pain. It was clear that The8 had shielded them from the worst of the impact, but the price had been steep.

Panic surged through DK as he reached out, his hand trembling as he tried to shake The8 awake. "Hao, hey, wake up!" His voice was shaky, desperate. The8 groaned in response, but his body remained limp, and it was clear that the younger man was in no small amount of pain.
