CHAPTER 114

I held my head, feeling like the world had just given me a slap that no one could survive through. My daughter Beyhan did not deserve to go through what she went through. A cheating husband is not something an Ottoman Sultana should have. If he cannot be loyal to his wife, then how can we be certain he is faithful to the state? My poor Beyhan had gone through so much, she married Ismail with no love in between them, she had given him two children, Ayșegül and Hasan, she tried her hardest to be happy with that man, all he gave her was misery and Qamar could feel nothing but guilt as if she was responsible, she had given Beyhan options and it was Beyhan who had chosen Ismail, Qamar should not have had him as an option, but how could she have known?

"How is she?" Mihrimah asked once I stepped out of Beyhan's room in the Topkapi Palace. I sighed tiredly and looked up at my stepdaughter, Mihrimah had stood by my side since she was a little girl when her mother had died. She had helped me raise some of these children, stood by my side, and on their sides. I did not doubt Mihrimah's loyalty and love for her siblings.

"The midwife gave her some medicine. She said Beyhan collapsed because of exhaustion. Beyhan is sleeping now," I answered. Mihrimah nodded solemnly, moving to the side to let me pass. My other daughters had also gathered outside the door, worried about their sister.

"Where are Ayșegül and Hasan?" I asked. I had not heard their voices since I had left them with Ayșe when we had brought Beyhan to Topkapi Palace once she had woken up after fainting.

"They're with Osman and Abdullah playing, they were worried for their mother, but no matter, some toys had earned their attention more," Ayșe explained. Hasan was four years old, and Ayșegül was two, so I was not worried about them worrying too much about their mother; they probably have forgotten already.

"Mother," I turned from Ayșe when I heard Murad's voice calling me. I found him, Selim, Beyazid, Korkut, Cihangir, and Seyfettin making their way over to the women. I smiled seeing them all together, worried for their sister.

"How is she?" Murad asked worriedly. I sighed and moved closer to look at him, only then noticing a bruise on his cheek. My heart dropped at the sight, and in seconds I was in front of him, touching the bruise.

"This better have a good explanation," I hissed, looking around at the boys standing around me. I had tried my best with these boys, but I could not always stop their fights when they were younger, and as they grew older and bigger in size, I had less and less control, but I knew none of them dared take such a measure; that is why I had not jumped to as many conclusions as anyone else would have.

"Selim was attacked in the woods during our hunt with his majesty. Muard and I saved him, but that liar lied to his majesty and said he did it on his own." Beyazid hissed loudly while glaring at Selim with hatred. This rivalry will never end. I had always tried to soften their hearts towards one another, but like Hürrem, I had always failed to do so; the two brothers simply could not stand each other.

"Liar! You invented that story. I did it myself," Selim yelled, turning to face Beyazid. Beyazid moved closer to Selim till their noses were almost touching; if it were possible, steam would be coming out of both their ears. Beyazid opened his mouth to yell back when,

"Enough!" Murad growled loudly; he did not even need to raise his voice to intimidate them or all of us. He looked furious and scary despite the blue bruise on his cheek. "Beyhan does not need this; she needs us to be by her side, not fighting each other over something stupid!" Murad yelled, turning to face Selim and Beyazid. Selim's face was turning red from fury and embarrassment at being yelled at by his younger brother.

"You all go rest, Beyhan is asleep and will not wake up till morning, you have to return to your Sanjaks in two days, no time to waste," I spoke trying to break the tension that built up between the brothers, Fighting and problems seems to have started again beytween Beyazid and Selim, and Murad was in the center this time for some reason.
