I jumped as a scream broke the calming silence. I picked up Osman from the floor and ran outside to see what the commotion was about. Hurrem stood beside Suleiman looking down at the floor with tears in her eyes while he comforted her. Mustafa stood to the side looking down sad while Mehmed stood beside Esma confused.
I looked down to see Hurrem's birds laying on the floor a little further away from each other, dead.
"This is a bad sign" Hurrem muttered sadly looking down at her beloved birds in front of her.
"Father, I miss my mother," Mustafa said earning our attention.
"Go prepare yourselves, you too Qamar everyone should go back home" Suleiman ordered annoyed. I know he was sad that Mustafa wanted to go back but the poor boy is not used to being away from his mother.
"Come on Mustafa" I took the hand of the raid boy while balancing Osman in my other arm.
There wasn't much to prepare since we didn't have time to unpack since we came so in a matter of an hour we were all sitting in our carriages being driven back to the throne's castle.
"How long until we reach home?" Mustafa asked looking at me with his puppy eyes.
"Until the sun sets darling" I answered pushing some hair out of his face before turning to Osman who let out a happy scream reaching out for his toy in Mustafa's hand.
As the time passed we stopped only once to eat before we continued our way home. I raised my eyebrow when the carriage stopped a little bit before the castle. I stood up signaling the others to stay put. I pushed the curtains to the side to see Hurrem talking to one of the aghas as people with torches were trying to attack the castle. I ran over to Hurrem's carriage and the agha who was speaking with her.
"What is going on?" I asked worriedly not taking my eyes off of the people trying to break into our castle.
"The rebels are acting up, Sultanas I advice you to go somewhere safer," he said not daring to look up at us.
"What about our children, Selim, Mihrimah, Ayse, and Abdullah, they're all inside," I asked worriedly looking at Hurrem who looked just as worried as me for her children.
"Sultanim, there's no way to go in or come out," he said. I closed my eyes slapping my forehead in anger.
"Let me take you to Hatice sultan's castle, it's safer there" I nodded and went back to my carriage trying to keep the children calm as we drove a little further away to Hatice sultan's castle.
I got out and picked up Osman from Helen while she helped Mahidevran's maid help, Mustafa, down before we all ran with Hurrem and her maid into the castle as the rebellions grew closer. I could see Hurrem saying something to a guy I've never seen before but I'm guessing was the painted Leo.
"Hatice" I sighed in relief when I saw her in her room. She walked over and pulled me in a hug feeling relieved to see me and her brother's children.
"They look like they're about to attack" Gulfem hatun said earning our attention. I walked over to the window and watched as the people fought with the guards trying to break in.
"May Allah protects us" I whispered kissing my Osman's forehead bouncing him up and down to keep him calm.
"Sultanas, I say it's safer if you all would go underground, it's safer in the shelter" Nasuh Efendi or also known as Matraçki Nasuh, said.
"Come on then" I moved Osman to my other arm and walked out of the room behind Nasuh with my heart in my throat.
We ran down the stairs like maniacs. Hatice protected Mustafa as someone threw something at the castle and a lot of smoke came into the castle.
"Come here, Shehzade" Nasuh picked up Mustafa and continued walking down the stairs. I looked at Hurrem who held Mehmed in her arms covering his head so he won't see anything. I gave her an encouraging smile which she returned with a nod.
We continued down the stairs when suddenly Hatice sultan tripped and fell down a whole flight of stairs. Gulfem was the first to run over and check on her. Hatice was pregnant and I'm pretty sure she just lost the baby from a fell like this.
"Hatice wakes up" we all surrounded the fallen sultana but she wouldn't wake up.
"We can't stay here we have to go to the shelter, Leo I'm entrusting the sultana to you" Nasuh instructed. Leo took off his bag and picked up the sultana.
We continued walking down the stairs wanting nothing more than to be safe again and to make sure the children and Hatice were alright.
I stopped when I heard glass breaking, I turned around to see Leo falling down on his knees wing Hatice still in his arms. Nasuh placed Mustafa down and ran over to see when happened.
"They shot you" I closed my eyes for a second. Could this day get any worse?
"Come on Mustafa" Mustafa took a piece of my dress and held it as Nasuh picked Hatice up and we all continued running without Leo who Nasuh will bring after making sure were safe.
"Bring cushions" I ordered Sadika, Hatice sultan's Kalfa and she was the one to save Mehmed and Mustafa from a fire before I was bought to the castle.
"Lay her down gently" Gulfem ordered Nasuh who placed down the sultana on the cushions.
"Mustafa, come here" I ordered the young boy. We walked to the corner and sat down beside each other. He was on my left huddling close to me and Osman was on my right not know what was going on.
"Hurrem" she looked at me as I signaled for her to sit with us. This way we will be out of the way and safer.
"Sadika, go bring the doctor" Gulfem ordered. Sadika nodded and ran out of the room as fast as she could. I and Hurrem had one thing in common, we both disliked Sadika who was once sent to spend the night with Suleiman but it didn't work out well since Mehmed almost drowned.
"Allah will protect us" I whispered to Mustafa as Hurrem and Mehmed shuffled closer to us and sat down beside us. I pulled Mustafa and Osman closer to me praying for Allah to save us from this rebellion.
