T.W. Mentions of anxiety and heightened nerves.
One never spoke.
One knew everyone.
One was loud.
And one was smart.
No one would have ever imagined they'd have been such good friends.
They began the year hating each other, one would always shout at the other, one would retreat in on themselves, and one would be torn on what to do.
They never really spoke to each other, and almost the entire year passed without incident.
Almost.
When they got sat with each other for a project towards the end of the year, everyone knew it was a recipe for disaster.
Or so they thought.
Their project was based around Good And Evil. They had to come up with whether the world was Good OR Evil, and it was going to be difficult.
Straight away, two were sitting back, refusing to do anything, saying that the others should do it for them.
Then the teacher became involved, "What if you do the entire project?"
"Why would I do that?"
"Why would they do that?"
"Okay Okay." He put his hands up, indicating he was surrendering.
Then the teacher turned to Virgil, "Look Honey, I know you don't like to socialize, but, I need you to, and I need you to put your journal away, I wouldn't want anyone taking it, or reading it and you getting more upset, and I know you do not like to talk, but if you do not talk during this presentation, I will have to fail you."
Roman intervened, "Why not put him with all the other shy, quiet kids?"
"I tried, Roman, he still finds a way out of it, even then. This is my last hope, that you all being relatively loud students, you can encourage him to talk and not fail this class. I can't be lenient forever."
He nodded sliding his journal into his bag, and the teacher turned to Logan, Virgil's only friend, if he could be considered that, "I need you to watch over him, make sure his anxiety doesn't worsen, and if it does, you need to let me know."
As Virgil sat listening to Logan's and their teachers conversation, he felt the familiar dread fill his stomach, and he began playing with his hands, pulling his fingers, lacing them and unlacing them, playing with his nails, and his bracelets on his wrists.
"If I may, ma'am, I believe his anxiety has already worsened, I do not think it can be avoided in this situation."
She nodded and turned away to go back to help other groups.
"So Nerd, how do you know Silence over here?"
"He's my um... friend, close like that you know?"
Virgil sent Logan a look, indicating he was rather confused, he never realized Logan thought of him as a friend.
Roman nodded, clearly satisfied with the answer.
Patton sat by and watched, not sure whether or not to say anything.
Soon, the class ended, finally ending the awkward silence that had descended over them.
Virgil took his time packing up, not wanting to rush out with everyone else.
Once Logan and Patton had gone, Roman stood at the other side of the desk, waiting for Virgil's attention.
Once he'd stood up again, he looked startled that anyone was still there. Roman slide a paper across the table, telling Virgil to text him, and they could meet up ad discuss the project.
