"If it breathes, you flirt with it."
"No I do not!"
"You do. You're always making googly eyes at everyone."
"That's a lie!"
"No it's not. And it's making me feel like I'm not good enough, so until you stop, or realise what you're doing wrong, I want nothing to do with you..."
That last sentence broke his heart. He didn't want to do it. But if was for the best, both knew it was serious and neither wanted to end things, but one knew it would spare the heartbreak later on, and the other knew his boyfriend wouldn't do anything unless he had reason to.
"Y-you don't mean that... do you?"
The pain in his voice almost broke the other male, but he stood resolute.
"I do mean it and I'm not changing my mind. You need to change your ways."
He walked out. Out of their house, their life, and their relationship.
He didn't know where he was going, just that he was going.
—
He made it to his friends house, and internally cringed at what he would have to say, that he would have to ask a favour, ask to use their sofa as a bed. Listen to them being all couple-y all night.
He sighed and knocked, his gaze cast down, he couldn't help it.
"Virgil?"
His head snapped up, and his gaze landed on his friend, and only then did it sink in that he'd really done it.
"Pat... I-I..." he couldn't form a sentence, he couldn't control his thoughts, he couldn't do much of anything, other than break down on his best friends doorstep.
Patton pulled him into a tight hug, allowing the slightly shorter male to cry into his shoulder.
They stood that way for a while, before Patton pulled him into the house. Getting him a glass of water and asking him to talk, the ordeal gained the attention of Patton's boyfriend, who sat with them, and listened.
"I told him..." Virgil started, taking a deep breath to calm him down slightly. "I wanted him to stop flirting with everyone. I walked out. He looked so... broken..." he looked down, and tried to will the tears away, yet they remained and he couldn't help but let them fall.
"You had to do it... he wasn't being a fair boyfriend. You did the right thing."
"I told him to only contact me when he'd changed..."
"And that is okay. You have the right to be heard."
Virgil continued to talk to his friends about the situation and they let him stay there for a while, until he got back on his feet.
—
Months passed, and Virgil heard nothing from Roman.
He thought that he never would.
He walked into a coffee shop, and ordered his regular coffee and leaned against the counter, on his phone, waiting for the drink.
Roman walked in and immediately recognised the clothing, and the male bu the counter.
He went to back out, but Virgil turned around and his eyes landed on Roman.
"Virgil..."
"Roman." His voice was cold, and hard, but almost lifeless. He seemed so empty and hurt. He was putting up an act to prevent him from getting hurt again.
"I'm sorry."
"No. I don't want to hear it."
"I was going to call you... I did call you... Patton said you were out."
"So you really tried." His voice had a hint of sarcasm to it, yet his eyes betrayed his voice. His eyes filled with tears, and showed Roman how hurt he was.
"Please talk to me. I want to fix us."
"I don't know that we can."
Virgil walked out of the coffee shop, Roman following closely behind.
"Of course we can."
"Why? So you can screw me over and flirt with everyone again? So you can act like you've changed but you really haven't? So you can make me feel even more useless!?" They gained the attention of a few people who passed by, yet they didn't care.
They continued walking, and only stopped when they reached the park.
"Virgil would you just listen!" Roman exclaimed, gaining the attention of the younger male.
"What? I've listened. I spoke. What more do you want?"
"I want you. I have changed. I was so broken after you left. I hate this between us. I want you!"
"You should have thought of that before you flirted with everyone! Heck, for all I know you cheated on me."
"I didn't..."
"So you say... doesn't mean you didn't."
"I didn't. I just want you back." He deflated, "Please." His eyes filled with tears and the sight hurt Virgil, yet he didn't want to break.
"No."
Roman saw the weakness pass through his eyes, and used it to move them to a bench.
"I know you love me."
"I moved on."
"No you didn't. You can't lie to me."
"I got over us."
"I just said don't..."
"Roman just stop. Why can't you get that you hurt me and I love you but I'm scared to let you back in?" He exploded, causing them both to look shocked.
"I love you Virgil, and I never intended to hurt you."
Virgil looked down, "you should go... or I should. I have work in the morning..." Virgil didn't make eye contact as he spoke, the shadows on the ground were longer than before their conversation, and the park was darkening.
"Come home."
"I have a home. It's called with Patton and Logan."
"No. Virgil. Please." He sighed and watched as Virgil hastily wiped away any tears that had fallen.
He moved his hand to under Virgil's chin and tilted his head up, pressing a short, albeit loving kiss to his lips.
"I'm yours, and I'm so sorry. I love you more than anything."
"I-I... you cant just make me break... kissing me and sweet talking me..."
"Don't lie." He murmured, running a thumb over Virgil's chapped lips, "I know you."
Virgil sighed. "Fine, But you do anything to hurt me... and I'm gone for good."
Roman smiled, and pressed another kiss to Virgil's lips.
"I won't make you regret this." Roman took Virgil's hand in his own.
The two walked back to their old house, and although neither said it out loud, they were both happier with each other.
