Roman was homeless.
He never spoke to anyone, he hardly ever was noticed by anyone.
Few people helped him, they all though he was trying to get money out of them, and they thought he had everything he needed.
They were wrong.
He had nothing other than the clothes on his back.
He knew how to read and write, he knew basic things, but he was not an overly intelligent person.
Most people that took the time to speak to him, thought he was delirious.
He dreamed that one day, he would become the prince he was meant to be, but he knew he would never get to live that dream, he was stuck on the streets and it wouldn't change anytime soon.
He watched as people passed, he watched their lifestyles, but one particular man caught his eye.
He would always wear a black shirt, and blue tie, khaki trousers and black shoes. His hair was always neatly combed over, and he wore black glasses.
The man would always go into the coffee shop across the road, get his morning coffee and be on his way, to work Roman presumed.
One day, Roman saw the man running late, his tie was wonky, his hair a mess, the normally neat man was clearly in a rush, and he didn't stop for his morning coffee.
Roman found himself wonder what life would be like for him if he could get a job, afford a house and really live.
He felt himself become sad at the thought of him never getting that.
As the days went by, Roman noticed the temperature dropping, and he felt himself getting colder, the stray cat he shared the alley with had started to curl up with him, trying to warm up as much as possible.
The cat was a dark brown, with lighter brown and grey patches, and Roman had taken quite a liking to it, he noticed it was a she, and he named her Pudding, for the sole purpose of when he first saw her, she had a rather large belly from being fed, now though, she had lost a lot of weight and they both relied on whatever food they could fish from the bins.
Weeks passed, and it became increasingly colder, he knew he and the cat would not make it through the winter, not with what little they had.
Roman tried to go into the coffee shop, one morning, with the Pudding, just to get some warmth, to stop feeling the harsh winds.
The cat sat shivering in his arms, and he was trying his hardest to not shiver. As soon as he was seen with the cat, he was told to get out, they don't allow animals in there.
He tried to argue that it was freezing outside and they needed the warmth. They wouldn't listen to him, and he was told to leave.
As he was leaving, he ran into someone. "I am sorry." The other person said.
Roman shook his head, slightly disappointed in himself for not being able to help the cat he had grown fond of.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm not." Roman looked up at the man he had been watching for the past few months, his eyes filled with tears and he looked away, the cat mewed at him softly, trying to help calm him down.
"You are homeless?"
Roman nodded.
"You live in the alley across the road?"
Again, Roman nodded.
"Is she yours?"
"Not originally, she was living in the alley shortly after I started living there, she liked me I guess, and since it's getting colder, she relies on me for warmth, which I'd gladly give her if I had any."
