my ate was a very smart girl. she excelled in academics and would often win awards and bring home trophies. she never expressed interest in romance and it was probably preferred since she was still a kid. any sign of a boy liking or courting her and she would get "disciplined" aka beaten up. it was like this until she graduated college. after that, the whole family started pressuring her to get married. NBSB and youre suddenly supposed to have a husband? i knew she didnt want to get married (well at that time probably). she was a very "woke" girl for our time and never really saw an issue with being a "matandang dalaga" and would often defend my aunt who never married whenever the relatives ridiculed her for not having a husband or children. even though ate was an honor student until college, she did not have what the family considered "a nice job". they continued to pressure her into getting married until she neared her 30s. i was still young so i thought she really wanted to, but eventually she gave in. within less than 1 year after meeting her first boyfriend, they immediately got married. naturally, the relatives showed reservations. how could she marry someone she just met? the guy cheats on her and suddenly its her fault. its probably because she earns more than the guy or because she was bossy/ always wanted things planned/ wanted things perfect/ did not tolerate mediocrity, etc. after they split up, she finally finds a guy who treats her better than her dick of a husband and the whole family is in uproar. it's against christian values, what will other people say, how dare you do this to your parents, etc.
she used to be this sweet girl who always loved to play with me and would always get so excited to see us whenever she came home. now she is bitter, always insulting me and often brings me down even for my achievements. but i guess what other people think is more important to my relatives than the feelings of my ate...
