"Can't sleep?"
Bones whispered, when he felt you turn over for the 9th time within the hour.
"I don't know what's wrong with me"
You propped your head up a little bit, playing with the fabric of the blanket between your fingers.
"Would you like for your friendly neighbourhood Doctor to give you a check up?"
Bones sat up when he realised that his little remark didn't earn its usual laugh, and in the light reflecting on your face tear streaks ran down your face.
"Hey angel- you can talk to me"
Pulling you into a hug, Bones rubbed circles along your back as you let out the sobs that you'd been quietly holding back since you went to bed.
"I'm sorry- I don't know what's wrong with me.. I don't know- I don't know"
For as long as you can remember, not having an explanation for something was an irrational fear of yours. When you couldn't explain things in a way to make someone else understand, innocent frustration overtook you.
"You don't have to explain anything angel, just let me take care of you"
Bones had always been more gentle than he cared to let on, well he did his best to be gentle around you anyways.
Relaxing more and more, a sense of safety that only Bones could provide you was ever present.
"I'm sorry- I- I... it's all just been so frustrating, when I mess up at my station, or- or I get a sum wrong, I feel like such a mess up"
"Oh angel, mess ups are human, doesn't mean that you're less then, you're still amazing in my eyes, anyone who tries to say the opposite is dead wrong"
He peppered kisses on whatever part of your face he could reach, finally earning a few soft giggles.
"I love you angel, mess ups and all"
You grinned at his sentiments, his hands gently cupped your face before he connected your lips.
"I love you too"
Pulling each other into a tight hug, Bones continued to kiss your neck lightly, grinning mischievously the moment you pulled away from each other.
"There's a very special way I could cheer you up Angel... doctors orders"
Bones trailed his hand down your waist, about to pull you closer when the communicator on the wall started beeping, begrudgingly getting up to answer Jim's voice came through asking for Bones.
"Dammit Jim!"
