"There's nothing over here sir"
I read out my readings, my voice loud and confident over the ambient sounds of the jungle. Commander Riker nodded, before he spoke, his voice was assertive with an air of authority.
"Good, we'll set up our base here and tomorrow we will continue our survey"
I pulled out supplies out of the crate, I'd been designated to carry. Suddenly, I smiled as I looked up and was met with Data's golden eyes staring into mine warmly as he helped me unpack.
A random cargo ship had discovered an uncharted planet on the very edges of deep space, and the federation had decided to send the enterprise to conduct a geological survey of the planet.
Picard had assigned a small team of myself, Data, Riker, Worf and a few science and security personnel to the first survey team.
Once I had gotten myself set up, I found Commander Riker sitting in his own tent.
I gently clasped my hands behind my back before I spoke.
"Sir, Would it be alright if I went on a bit of trek? I'd like to get some plant and rock samples from the area"
He looked up at me, before he nodded, the exhaustion of the position written on his face, he spoke with the same air of command.
"Alright, just.. Take data with you"
I nodded, before I exited his tent with a soft and quiet step, before I approached Data, and spoke gently, trying to hide the soft blush on my cheeks from the androids intense stare.
"Would you like to come with me on a walk for samples?"
He nodded without saying a word, before he picked up his own tools and followed behind me. I smiled softly in appreciation as his golden nimble fingers worked and tuned our scanners to the same frequencies before we set off.
"So, what do you think of the new planet?" I asked attempting some small talk, my eyes darting between his golden eyes and the path ahead of us.
"I think it has good qualities for a planet of recreation"
He spoke in his same unemotional tone, the two of us pausing over a few particular specimens. A small, golden rose, sat in between the numerous grey rocks.
"What do you think of this?"
I turned and looked up at Data, before I reached out and as my fingers brushed against the petals a sudden tightness in my lungs washed over me so intensely I couldn't hold myself up, collapsing to the ground. I gagged and heaved as I clutched at the ground, until suddenly I felt two strong arms wrap around my writhing body.
I looked into Data's golden eyes as he carried me back to the camp, I struggled, not even sure if he could truly hear me as I whispered
"D-d-Data.. I- I love- love you so much"
Before I could even get out the last syllable, the world fell black.
—Timeskip—I groaned as I finally opened my eyes again, the world around me coming into light, a distant voice that felt familiar spoke around me "Lieutenant Commander Data, report to the sick bay please"
A warm hand gently laid me back, and a blur of nurses faces began to help me, treating me and steadying my pulse.
After a while, Data entered the sick bay, a smile etched into my lips as I saw him sit down.
"Y/n, you are awake" .
"Yes I believe I am, don't tell me it's been ten years."
I laughed softly as I gently rubbed his hand, letting it rest in mine.
"It's only been a month since you fell ill Y/n"
Data reassured me gently, his grip tightening around my hand.
"Oh thank goodness"
"You told me that you love me before you fell unconscious, is that how you still feel towards me?"
Data asked, his tone softer than usual, I looked into his golden eyes, the word barely a whisper as it tumbled past my lips.
"Yes"
Data didn't respond with words, instead, he gently pulled me in closer and pressed a kiss to my lips.
