I sat in my bed as I packed, getting ready for shore leave.
I had quiet music playing in the background when the door chimed
"Come in.. Morning Spock! What can I do for you?"
I smiled as my best friend came through the doors
"Hello y/n, I wish to ask you a question?"
I nodded and continued to pack
"You and Jim have gone camping before, what is to be expected on one of these trips?"
I bit back a laugh choosing to respond with
"You can expect quite a bit"
Jim came back into the room with bones, who was grumbling about something with his endless southern charm.
"Are you out of your cornfed Mind? Climbin' a mountain!"
It was my turn to turn around in surprise
"I was going to surprise you with it later"
Jim shrugged apologetically
"See what I mean"
I scoffed putting in my spare pair of shoes, Spock immediately stood up and took them out of my hands and packed the for me, in the most logical manner.
We all sat down at the table, Jim having brought us a meal to share on the ship.
"This is all I could find"
He put the takeout bags on the table and we all picked at them, Spock and I split something called lembas bread while Jim and Bones shared some soup.
"I cannot believe you're going to try and climb a mountain"
I whispered at Jim when we were alone in the kitchen.
"Hey! I'll need your support, I know this isn't going to be easy but I don't believe in no-win scenarios"
I almost accidentally slammed my plate onto the counter.
"That excuse only works with admirals. Not your wife!"
We were whisper shouting at each other, until Spock stood in the doorway
"I do not wish to interrupt but I believe we better get moving and keep doctor McCoy away from the alcohol considering the amount he has had already"
We left as a group, I explained in as much detail as I could to Spock about what was going to happen. Ignoring Jim I set up my tent next to Spock who was on the complete other side of the camp ground we'd chosen.
"Why do you have your boots?"
Spock tucked them back into his tent
"Incase something goes wrong with Jim's experience"
"You mean his mid-life crisis"
Spock raised his eyebrow, and went back to work.
At the first light on the fifth day, Bones and I looked to the East exchanging binoculars to look for Jim.
Despite my insistence that he's not capable, he was still trying to get half way up.
Spock came out of his tent with his grav boots and bones and I both sighed at the same time
"This is gonna be a Day to remember isn't?"
