Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Wesleys POV

"Captain, weren't you married once?" I hesitantly asked Jean-Luc, I only came to his quarters to ask advice about my love life, but I remembered my mom telling me a story about the captain and his wife.
"Yes I was Wesley, yes I was" he replied suddenly saddened from the topic.
"What was she like?" I asked more questions, my curiosity getting the best of me.
"Wesley, she was the most wonderful person I've ever met. She always said to me 'Jean-Luc if our child is ever going to need advice will you give them this?'"
The captain suddenly turned around and pulled a book out from the shelves behind him. I watched as he carefully handed it to me I inspected the outside of the book a small journal, with a black cover and gold lined pages, finding each page tabbed with different words like love, Career, and happiness.
"I think you should read it, you might the advice in there useful" the captain nodded and I tucked it under my arm continuing conversation tell I left almost 10 minutes later.
When I got back to my quarters I flipped the book open tell I found the page I was looking for
"Don't waste time when you meet who you want to spend the rest of your life with, things happen and then it's too late, I wish someone had given me that advice"

Jean-Lucs POV

When Wesley brought up y/n memories that I had tried to forget came rushing back all at once.
I pick at different bits of y/n's food as we ate lunch together, having been best friends since we joined the academy things like this were normal.
"Not my French fries!" She smacked it out of my hands, before eating it herself.
We both laughed and I couldn't help but watch her the way she smiled, just everything about her made me fall for her more and more.
Reality came crashing back down to me when I noticed my girlfriend at the time come jogging over to us, she always felt like a distraction from the heartache I felt when Realised Just how in love with y/n I am.
As I said goodbye to y/n I noticed her disappointment but I tried to brush it off as nothing.
I walked away thinking about my future and my present and the only thing that seemed constant through out was her.
As my girlfriend wouldn't stop talking I looked back and I couldn't hold back anymore, I had to tell her no matter what.
I walked away from her not listening as she called for me to come back. I arrived back in the courtyard shortly and y/n was still there about to finish up eating. She smiled warmly, the smile that made my heart melt.
I didn't say anything as I knelt down in front of her taking her food and setting it down next to her.
She seemed confused as I grabbed her shoulders speaking with surprising confidence
"I love you y/n and I always have, and I always will"
I felt my heart beating out of my chest as she took my words for only a moment before replying
"I love you too"
We both leaned and passionately kissed the applause from other students made me smile.
I knew I found the one as the years went by we didn't waste anytime getting married, that was the same week she gave me the book. we even got assigned to the same ships, she was meant to join the enterprise as a communications officer.
A month before I was supposed to become captain of the enterprise so suddenly and unexplainably the love of my life was in the hospital sick and dying.
I sat by her bedside holding her hand feeling powerless staying close to her was the only thing I could do at this point.
I tried to delay leaving as long as possible, I got another week and never left her side for a moment.
The day before I had to leave Y/n had suggested we watch one of her oldest favourite movies 'Singin in the rain'
She turned to me and grabbed my hand making me look at her
"Remember our first date, when you were so nervous you tripped 6 times" I nodded and smiled at the memory
"Don't just be a good captain for me, eh be the best captain every single day.... I love you so much"
I felt a lump in my throat form as y/n fell limp, her slowly closed as I pressed my lips gently against her head proclaiming my love for her one last time before going to get a nurse.
