Jim Kirk was scared.
More accurately he was terrified.
Terrified because as he sat in the captains chair trying to keep a calm face, on the other side of the screen he had to watch as his wife struggled trying to get away from the romulan with his hand around her throat and phaser to her head.
From what he understood, the romulans deal was if Jim gave up the coordinates of a struggling planet that If the Romulans claimed could be a huge victory for them in the war and they could kill millions of innocent people and y/n would go free.
Or
He would have to watch as his wife was tortured for that information, and eventually killed if she didn't cooperate.
"Now come on Captain Kirk, is this really what you want, just give me the information and she'll go free"
The romulan snarled, his ship was emitting a low radioactive signal that was jamming the transporter circuits, Scotty said it could take almost half an hour before he could override it, that was almost 16 minutes ago.
"Why are you doing this? The only benefit this planet could have to Romulus is another conquered civilization. Haven't you killed enough"
Jim asked, praying to god he wouldn't get called on his bluff.
"Why are any of us fighting? If not to conquer and rule over the galaxy. My fight will not be done until every person yields to my people"

"Maybe that's the point, if we work together we could have peace both the federation and Romulus there is no need for war! The people on the planet are innocent beings who've barely evolved past the wheel!"
The romulan scoffed
"As Long As there is men like us in the world there will always be a need for war!"

"End the transmission! Get ready to destroy the enterprise!"
The screen switched to black before Jim could even react.
His heart shattered in a million pieces in seconds, not ready to accept that he might just lose her.
"Captain, what do we do?"
Sulu asked.
Jim opened his mouth to speak when the intercom buzzed and Scotty voice rang out
"Captain I've got her, she's on board!"
He cheered,
"Warp factor 5 Mister sulu, get us out of here and destroy that warbird whatever it takes"
Sulu nodded, Spock already knew to take the helm as Jim bolted out of the room.
Nothing else mattered to Jim as he made it to the transporter room, he arrived just in time to see nurse chapel escorting her out on a gurney
"She'll be fine Jim y/n's a strong woman and that romulan barely even laid a finger on her, she's a bit bruised but nothing else really"
Jim looked over at Bones who was about to go follow them.
"Yeah... bones I almost lost her today, my own wife and I couldn't protect her"
Jim watched intently as they disappeared behind the turbolift doors.
"It's not your fault Jim, that romulan kidnapped her, if you hadn't bluffed for as long as you did, she could be a lost worse"
The intercom buzzed
"Captain here"
Jim answered waiting patiently before Spock responded
"The warbird has been destroyed Captain, shall we plot a course for zeta p 3?"
"Yes Mister Spock"
Jim switched off the intercom, letting out a sigh of relief, before following Bones into the turbolift.
"Everything is gonna be alright, right?"
"Right"
