Commander William T. Riker

Admiral Harrison called me into his office after I finished class at the academy.
"We will be visiting the enterprise in a month, you could visit your parents if you like"
I knew he was referring to my mom Deanna troi and my dad Will Riker.
"Admiral, with all do respect you and I both know how my parents and I left off and I shouldn't be emotionally compromised so early on especially if I'm going to be a captain"
"They raised you right kid, I also got the approval to bring back the Valiant into commission just for you"
We smiled, when I left the enterprise with admiral Harrison he took me in as sort of a step daughter.
"Thanks, you asked me to attend a meeting with you?"
"Seen as we got the valiant back into commission for you to become captain I will be the acting first officer until we get the rest of the details figured out"
This was my last year at the academy, i already passed the Kobayashi Maru test so hopefully by the end I will be Captain Y/n Riker of the USS valiant.
"We need to go" admiral Harrison and I left his office quickly. I always dreamed of when I was kid being like the big adults walking to their super important meetings.
"This is Commander Savark, he might be your first officer" we did the Vulcan hand salute and walked into the conference room.
As we all sat down Fleet admiral Regan began talking about the recent attacks on science labs nearby the academy I was attending.
"Admiral?" I spoke up during one of his pauses
"Yes Lieutenant?" His tone was short but he didn't seem like he was angry.
"Why go for the science labs? Obviously there are important experiments happening there if this is an attempt to start a war why not go for security stations" Admiral Harrison gave me a look when i looked around everyone seemed to be understanding my point.
Suddenly a gun fired through the room shattering the giant glass walls around us. Admiral Harrison jumped in front of me protecting me from the oncoming lasers
"Stay safe, I'll figure something out" I yelled pulling away and ran to get a better view of the attackers it was a two manned shuttle one of air control teams gun was still on the floor I took it and shot at it I was some how able to take out the cannon effectively taking down the ship.
I realized that they were still in there My legs carried me back to Savark and found him sitting over Admiral Harrison. So many emotions washed over me in the moment I leant down in the same position as him we didn't speak as I checked his pulse when I found nothing rage and sadness filled me as i tried to control the tears I hugged him I only let out choked sobs hot tears flowed down my cheeks as I regained control I stood up and walked away looking out the broken window.

2 months later

"Captain Picard, it's so good to see you" I shook hands with Jean-Luc
"Captain Riker, has a nice ring to it" I looked at my dad giving him a nod before going back to my assignment.
"As you know This is the Bridge " the Captain was still showing me around and my dad was trailing behind trying not to talk or annoy me.
On my break I was slowly sipping a drink trying to figure out something to do about my parents and our whole situation. Thinking quickly I got up and walked out I walked with power I practiced my power walk a lot before I became a captain.
I walked into my parents quarters and decided to just tell them the full story.
"Y/n! What's wrong?" My mom and dad spoke at the same time.
"I'm going to tell you everything that happened" I was a little tipsy but I knew I wanted to do this.
"He was a good man Admiral Harrison" a tear slid down my cheek as I vividly remembered the events that took my best friend away.
"I'm sorry honey" when my mother spoke my instinct to argue kicked in but I withheld it.
"What happened was On the day I was supposed to leave I was still on the fence about if I should I go I didn't tell anyone about it I asked you guys to dinner and at one point I was so sure I wouldn't go, but when I went to go tell you guys you weren't in your quarters and when I found that you guys were playing poker instead I was so mad that I went out of spite, Admiral Harrison took me in and taught me so much" I just blurted out the full story My mom just pulled me into a tight hug and My dad hugged us both
"I love my girls" he buried his face in our hair
"We love you too"
