TW crying, basic angst, cursing, homophobia, controlling parents

Virgil and Patton sat alone in Patton's room. They both sat on Patton's bed with their backs against the wall. The others were downstairs in the student center doing their work. Patton had been quiet throughout dinner. Virgil had told them he wanted to go to bed early and asked Patton to carry his stuff to his room. Now, they just sat in silence.

"Patton," Virgil said, finally breaking the silence, "I know it sucked watching that and listening to the others say those things but-"

"Do you even think he's gay?" Patton asked.

Virgil was taken aback by the question. He bit his lip as he thought about the question. Was it okay to tell Patton or was that Logan's secret to share? Was that even a secret? Logan had said he wasn't entirely sure, but he knew he liked Patton, so he couldn't be entirely straight. He had told Virgil, but then again it was to help him not feel so alone. Virgil sighed.

"I think... I think if he is it'd be his secret to share, not mine," Virgil said slowly.

Patton nodded as he took in Virgil's words before sighing himself.

"I know his family would probably approve of her more than me anyway," Patton muttered as he drew his knees to his chest.

Virgil looked at Patton. He saw tears in his eyes. Virgil wrapped his arm around Patton's shoulders. Patton welcomed the comfort and rested his head on Virgil's shoulder.

"His family is already forcing him to be a lawyer. Would it even matter if he is gay? They'd never let him date me!" Patton said as he wiped tears from his eyes.

"I know it sucks," Virgil said, "but you never know what will happen. Logan's already thinking of defying his family to become an astronomer. It's a step towards living his own life. Who knows, maybe he'll start dating the people he actually wants to date instead of who he thinks his parents approve of?"

"Or he'll try to get a good relationship with a nice girl so his parents won't be upset with him more for choosing astronomy over law!"

"Negativity is supposed to be my thing," Virgil muttered. "You're stealing my thing."

Patton smiled slightly at that. Roman walked into the room and stopped when he saw them on the bed.

"Woah, what's wrong, Padre?" Roman asked as he walked towards the bed.

Patton pulled at loose strings on his cardigan as he sniffled.

"Hannah has a better chance at getting Logan than me," Patton said softly.

Roman's eyes widened.

"You like Logan?!"

"Shh! Not so loud!" Virgil hissed.

"You like Logan?" Roman asked again, quieter.

Patton nodded.

"And with his parents being so strict, he's afraid he'll never have a chance," Virgil added.

Patton nodded again as more tears slid down his face.

"Aww, Patton!" Roman said sympathetically, "If it's meant to be, I'm sure it'll happen! The world is full of possibilities! You never know what'll happen!"

Patton looked up at him.

"You really think so?" Patton asked.

"Of course!" Roman said.

Virgil bit back his own cynical remarks. He didn't believe in "meant to be" or "destiny" or any of that other crap, but now wasn't the time to bring that up.
