Wed Nov 25

Virgil shifted in his seat. He had grown accustomed to Theresa and Robert. They were really nice, but he was nervous to meet Roman's dad. The twins had decided to meet him for lunch with his wife and they were bringing Virgil to meet him. It was only a lunch.

"Hey," Roman said gently grabbing Virgil's hand. "I'm sure Dad will like you."

Virgil took a deep breath before stepping out of the car.

"Okay," he said quietly.

They walked into the restaurant. A man stood up from a table to greet them.

"There they are!" He said as he hugged them.

They looked almost exactly like him. He had the same square jaw and milk chocolate eyes as the two. The only difference was his straight light brown hair. The twins had their mother's hair. He turned to look at Virgil extending a hand.

"You must be Virgil. You can call me Bill," he said.

Virgil adjusted himself and gingerly took the hand.

"Oh! And this is my wife, Autumn."

He looked to see a woman with long blonde hair and striking blue eyes staring at them.

"Hi," she said. "It's so nice to meet you!"

"Come, sit down!" Bill said.

The boys sat down and looked over their menus.

"So, how's school?" He asked.

Remus scoffed.

"Really? We're going to start with school now? We can't order first?" Remus asked.

"Remus!" Roman sighed. "School's fine. I have a role in the play coming up! We're putting the show on after break."

"Oh? That's wonderful! What are you guys doing?"

"I play the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors."

"Doesn't he die?" Autumn asked.

"They kind of all do," Virgil muttered.

Roman laughed.

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

"So, Virgil, are you in theatre too?" Bill asked.

"Oh... no. I'm more of a visual artist than a preforming artist like your sons."

"Visual art?"

Virgil nodded.

"Yeah, like drawing and stuff."

"Well, it's nice to have a hobby," Bill said. "What are you majoring in?"

Virgil bit his lip.

"I uh... I haven't exactly decided yet. I really like art and I would love to be a full-time artist. Logan thinks I could do it with enough dedication and patience."

"You are really good! I think you could do it!" Roman said.

"Are you sure that's what you want to do with your life? I mean you'd need a real job to support yourself while you're waiting to make it in the art industry."

Virgil curled in on himself. There is was. The doubt. Why did everyone have to remind him how hard it was to make it in the art industry? He understood it was going to be difficult. He knows what he's getting himself into. He wouldn't be doing this if he wasn't passionate about it. He couldn't picture himself doing anything else. He had tried and he just couldn't really see it. He was lost without his art.

"I... I know," Virgil said. "I actually have a part time job now to help save up."

"Oh! That's good! You still have plenty of time to decide your future, there's no need to rush."

"You know, maybe Virgil could help design the posters for my first movie!" Remus said excitedly.

"I don't think he wants to draw porn for you!"

"I'm not making a porno! I want to make a horror movie!"

"He isn't drawing a bunch of gore either!"

"He doesn't have to! Just something creepy and mysterious!"

Virgil smiled. He was glad his friends supported him. After lunch, they went back to the house and watched movies for the rest of the day. Roman wanted to share some of his favorite Disney movies with Virgil. He had already seen some of them, which allowed Roman to explain why they were his favorites and talk over some of them. It was a little annoying, but he didn't mind it too much.

Thurs Nov 26

The next day, Robert and Remus watched football in the living room while Theresa cooked Thanksgiving dinner. Virgil was rather curious about how it went. He and Roman helped out a little in the kitchen. Theresa taught him how to make dough for rolls and he got to baste the turkey a few times. Virgil ended up dropping a measuring cup full of flour which Roman proceeding to pick up and throw at him. Virgil retaliated by hugging him and rubbing off the flour before flicking water in his face. Theresa jokingly yelled at them and they stopped messing around. Roman went back to mixing the mashed potatoes and Virgil rolled the dough for the bread rolls. He was excited to see how it'd all end up. He'd never had homemade bread before as far he could remember. Everything smelled really good and he couldn't wait to try it. Last year he and his dad just got pizza while his dad tried to get him to watch the game. Virgil wasn't interested in sports.

Robert came in later to open a can of cranberry sauce and carve the turkey. Apparently it was their tradition for Robert to open the can of sauce and put it on a plate. Remus set the table. Roman helped bring some of the food to the table insisting Virgil should sit now. Virgil watched the meal get set on the table and everyone sit down around it. The smell alone made his mouth water. They all passed the dishes around and collected a variety of foods. Virgil decided to at least try everything since it was his first real Thanksgiving dinner in years. Eventually Theresa smiled and looked at everyone.

"I know it's cliche, but why don't we go over what we're thankful for? I'm thankful I get to spend this Thanksgiving with my sons. And I got to meet that boyfriend of Roman's," she winked at him as he groaned.

"I'll be thankful if you never do that again," Roman grumbled.

"I'm thankful that you two are doing well in school and that Theresa hasn't left me yet."

"Robert!"

He laughed.

"It's true! I'm surprised you stick with me!"

Theresa rolled her eyes.

"Remus?"

The one in question poked at his turkey while he thought it over.

"I guess I'm thankful we got in to our school of choice and everything. It's been a lot of fun and I'm actually enjoying it more than I thought I would."

"That's... actually really thoughtful of you," Roman said. "I guess-"

"Oh! And that I'm old enough to watch R-rated movies now!"

"And you ruined it!" Roman sighed. "I'm thankful for a lot of things I guess... but I'm just going to pick my favorites. My friends and family, obviously. And that I met Virgil this year."

Virgil turned away blushing.

"I guess it's my turn then?" Virgil said. He sighed and poked at his mashed potatoes. "I guess... I'm thankful for the people I've met while in school. Life really sucked before I met you guys and now I feel a lot less... lost. So... yeah. I'm thankful for my new friends."

Roman wrapped an arm around him.

"Aww, we love you too, Emo!" Remus said.
