Sat Dec 19

Virgil woke up to Janus jumping on the mattress next to him.

"Get up you lazy bitch!" Janus said.

"Agh! What do you want!"

"Mom made breakfast. Get up!"

"You do this every fucking morning! Can't you let me sleep in for once!" Virgil said rolling over.

"Nope! She made chocolate chip pancakes because she heard it's someone's birthday today. So get out of bed before they get cold!"

"Alright! Alright!" Virgil groaned as he sat up. "I'm getting up!"

"Good! I'll see you in a few minutes. If not I'm going to hit you with a pillow until you get up."

"I fucking swear, Janus, I will murder you one of these days!"

"Love you too!"

Janus blew him a kiss as he left the room. Virgil rolled his eyes before dragging himself out of bed. He walked into the kitchen where Grace was humming to herself stacking pancakes onto a plate. Janus smiled as soon as Virgil entered the room.

"Good morning, Sunshine," Janus said smugly.

"Your son is insufferable sometimes," Virgil grumbled to Grace as he sat down.

She laughed.

"Well, we can't have you sleeping all day. You're supposed to celebrate the day you were born!"

"I celebrate by sleeping in," he said.

She laughed again.

"Well, here we celebrate with cake. What kind of cake do you want, Sugar?"

"It doesn't matter," Virgil said.

"We had chocolate cupcakes with our friends before leaving and I don't think Virgil's ever had a homemade cake before."

She made a noise of disapproval as she turned off the stove and placed the pancakes on the table.

"What a damn shame! I'll tell you what. I'll make my famous lemon cake! And maybe a nice stir fry for supper," she said as she sat down.

"That sounds good," Virgil said as he placed some pancakes on a plate.

After they ate breakfast, Janus dragged him out of the house refusing to tell him where they were going. Virgil stared out the window of the car waiting for them to arrive. They ended up pulling into a bowling alley leaving Virgil confused.

"Bowling? You're taking me bowling for my birthday?" Virgil asked.

Janus smiled.

"Sort of," he said.

"What do you mean 'sort of?'" Virgil asked.

Janus just smiled and dragged Virgil inside. They got their shoes and balls before picking a lane. Virgil gasped when he saw four familiar faces staring back at him.

"Happy birthday!" they shouted.

"What are you guys doing here?!" Virgil asked as he hugged Patton.

"We planned on seeing you guys again anyway, so we thought we'd make the trip to see you for your birthday!" Patton said excitedly.

"But we already celebrated with cupcakes at the park! You didn't have to come see me!" Virgil said.

"Why would I miss an excuse to see my boyfriend?" Roman said wrapping an arm around him.

Virgil blushed.

"Get off me!" he said pushing Roman away.

"Aww! Don't be like that! We haven't seen each other in a week!"

"We literally face-timed last night! You saw my face then."

"That's not the saaaaame!" Roman whined.

"Roman, please," Logan rolled his eyes.

"I'm surprised you managed to make the time, Logan," Janus said.

Logan had taken up work at his parents' law firm to earn some money. Even with the amount of work his family had him do, he still grabbed a part-time job at a clothing store leaving him almost completely unavailable.

"Yes, well, I managed to get the day off at my part-time job and all I had to do was convince my parents to let me spend a few hours away."

"Geez, Logan! I still can't believe you got two jobs over break! You're going to tire yourself out!" Patton said.

"Yes, well. Saving up is important. I'll be on my own eventually and I'd like to be prepared. Also, if I had any spare time I'm certain my parents would try to set me up with someone and I really don't want to come up with a way to avoid blind dates."

"Ew. Your parents are that invested in your love life?" Roman asked.

"Yes, they've been trying for years and I'm 19 now so they think I need to start focusing a little more on getting a girlfriend." Logan rolled his eyes. "It doesn't matter though. As soon as I'm able to I plan on moving out and living my own life. I'm getting tired of dealing with them. My parents stress me out."

"That's good for you!" Janus said. "You deserve a chance to live your own life!"

"Yes, I suppose I do," Logan said glancing at Patton. "Anyway, we're here to bowl not discuss my parents."

"Right! Are you sure this won't be too much for you, Virgil?" Patton asked.

"It's already been a week and I've been doing those exercises the doctor gave me and all that! I'm sure it'll be fine!"

"And if not we can call 911 and ride in an ambulance!" Remus said.

"Let's try to avoid an ambulance!" Patton said nervously.

"Virgil doesn't even remember riding in one though," Remus pouted.

"Yeah, I had blacked out and got a concussion. I don't remember much of that night at all. And I was unconscious all the day after."

"See! I hardly call that a proper experience!"

"Remus! Riding in an ambulance is not an experience people should have!"

"Yeah, it's really expensive too," Virgil muttered. "But hey! If you have a few thousand dollars to spare, be my guest!"

"All the fun stuff is too expensive or what most people would say 'dangerous.'"

"Remus, skydiving without a parachute is a death sentence," Roman said.

"I didn't say I'd do it, I'm just saying it's quite a way to go."

"Anyway!" Janus shouted catching everyone's attention. "Let's get going!"

The boys all started bowling and talking. Virgil mostly hit the gutters. Roman tried to help him so Virgil started aiming for the gutters just to spite him. Roman was actually kind of cute a little pissed off. Virgil just laughed. After bowling, they went out for pizza and continued to talk. Roman slipped his hand into Virgil's while they walked to the pizza place next door making Virgil blush, but he didn't pull away. He had to admit, he did miss Roman.

After lunch, they went back to Janus' apartment to just talk and hang out. They put on a movie for background noise. They ended up Facetiming with Joan and Thomas to try to get the whole group involved even for a little bit. Later, Grace called the boys to dinner, excited to see her boys with so many friends. They continued to talk and laugh until Grace brought out a cake and they sang to him... again. He was starting to wish they never knew his birthday so he wouldn't have to hear that song ever again.

They ate their cake and Grace offered to let them all stay the night since it was getting late. Most of them took her up on the offer, but Logan knew his parents would never agree and he had an early day at work tomorrow. They set up pillows and blankets on the living room floor and watched movies until they all fell asleep.

Overall, it was his best birthday yet.
