TW cursing, self-deprecation

Sat Nov 14

Virgil was still sitting at his desk working on his calculus when he heard a knock at his door.

"Yeah?" Virgil called out.

"Hey, Kiddo. Can I come in?" he heard Patton call from the other side.

"Yeah, come on in."

Virgil turned to face the door as it opened. Patton just stood in the doorway.

"Are you ready for work?" he asked.

Virgil looked down at his phone. Shit! He had lost track of time.

"Oh gosh! I'm sorry! I lost track of time! Let me get changed! I'll be ready in a few minutes!" Virgil said as he stood up.

"O-okay!" Patton said as he closed the door.

Virgil quickly changed into his work uniform and grabbed what he needed for work. He threw the door open causing Patton to jump.

"Sorry," Virgil said breathlessly.

"You're fine! Are you ready to go?"

Virgil nodded and the two walked towards the elevators.

"I might need help with directions. I've never been to your work before."

"Yeah, don't worry about it."

They rode down the elevator in silence. They waved to the others as they headed out to the parking lot. Once they were in the car, Virgil just stared out the window. He should have brought his book.

"So," he turned as Patton spoke, "how was your date with Roman?"

"Oh, it was good, I guess," Virgil said.

"You guess?"

"Well, we had fun. He invited me to spend Thanksgiving break with him."

Patton's face lit up.

"Really?! Oh, that's so sweet!"

"Yeah, well... Roman lives in the next state. I'd have to take off of work for the whole week to go with him."

"So? You've been working really hard and with everything that's been going on you deserve to have a little time to spend with your boyfriend!"

Virgil rolled his eyes.

"He isn't my boyfriend yet, Pat."

"I know. But you guys are so cute!"

"And I can't just miss a week of work. I really need the money. I could get holiday-pay for working Thanksgiving!"

"Virgil... I don't think now is the time for you to be stressing so much about work. It's bad enough you're working as much as you are right now. Your leg is still broken and I feel like you should rest."

"Don't remind me," Virgil groaned.

"I just worry about you. You could have died, Virgil!"

"Maybe it'd be easier on everyone if I had."

"What?!" Patton screamed as he glanced at Virgil. "Don't say that!"

"I mean you'd be doing homework with Logan right now if it weren't for me. You guys wouldn't be wasting so much gas. It'd probably be less expensive if I hadn't survived anyway."

Patton pulled off to the side of the road and turned to look at Virgil.

"Where's this coming from?" he asked.
