Sat March 20
Janus knocked on the door and waited. Virgil wanted to go back to sleep but Janus insisted they make the most of the weekend before classes started up again. Virgil didn't entirely mind coming up to see Grace again before classes started, but he could also be on campus in his room sleeping right now. He also knew he should get some work done before classes like he said he would. He hadn't even started doing anything.
The door opened and Grace smiled as she pulled them both into a hug.
"Oh! Welcome home, Baby!" she said as she dragged them inside. "I already started on lunch. You boys had breakfast, right?"
"Yeah, Ma," Janus said as he went to sit down on the couch. "Do you want to watch a movie or something today?"
"We can get to that later! I want to know how you're doing! How are things with your boyfriend, Virgil?"
Virgil blushed a little.
"O-oh, we're doing okay."
"Just okay? Do I need to smack some sense into that boy?" she asked.
"No, ma'am. He's a good guy! We're doing good!"
"How many times do I have to tell you to call me 'Ma?' Stop with all this 'ma'am' bullshit. You're making me feel older than I really am," she laughed.
"Uh... right... sorry."
"You're fine, Sugar. Come have a seat. Tell me what you did at the lake! Did you have fun?"
"Remus kept throwing everyone in the water!" Janus complained. "It was cold!"
"You were throwing people in too," Virgil said.
"Remus started it and he deserved to get thrown in!"
"Patton didn't though."
"Patton ended up getting me back, though. It was fair in the end."
"You threw Patton in the lake?" Grace asked.
"He pushed me in too!"
"Only after you pushed him."
"I don't need your help, Virgil."
Virgil finally moved his way over to the couch and sat down next to Janus.
"Really? You should have been more clear."
"If I want your help, I'll ask for it."
"Oh, well thanks for the update. I'll keep that in mind."
Grace leaned over the couch.
"You boys hungry?" she asked. "Lunch should be ready soon."
"I don't know, Ma. I think our breakfast was good enough. It might last us the whole day," Janus said.
She smacked his arm and smiled.
"Don't tease me, Boy. Come get a plate."
"Virgil, I think she's talking to you."
She raised her hand again and Janus scrambled off the couch.
"I'm going! I'm going!" he said as he ran for the kitchen laughing.
"What am I going to do with that boy?" she asked shaking her head and following him.
Virgil laughed as he stood up to follow them. Grace loaded their plates and the three of them sat down at the table. Virgil stared at all of the food on his plate before taking a deep breath. She always gave him too much but he learned better than to say something. It was a losing battle he wasn't willing to attempt today. He just sucked it up and started eating joining in the conversation from time to time. Meals with Grace were always filled with laughter and warmth he hadn't even realized he had missed.
