TW cursing, crying
Wed Jan 20
Virgil leaned back in his chair as he stared at his graphic design project. They had gone over the software they needed in class today and he was given a small project to get acquainted with it. They were just supposed to edit a newsletter. He was kind of having fun going over color schemes and layouts for the newsletter. He heard the door open behind him and turned to see Logan walking in.
"Oh, I thought you'd be down in the student center," Logan said.
"Yeah," Virgil shrugged. "I just felt like being alone for a bit today. But I don't mind going back down if you want the room to yourself."
Logan shook his head.
"It's your room too. I would never do that to you. I actually only came to grab a few things and go to the library. They have the most comfortable chairs for reading."
Virgil glanced back at his project. He wouldn't even be able to take this class if Logan hadn't given him the laptop. Virgil turned his full attention to Logan as he rummaged around his desk.
"Did... did I ever thank you?" Virgil asked.
Logan stopped moving around to give Virgil a confused look.
"For what?"
"For the laptop."
"Oh," Logan moved to sit down on the foot of Virgil's bed. "Virgil, you don't really need to thank me. I already know you appreciate it and you won't take it for granted."
"I still want to say thank you. You've opened a lot of doors for me. I wouldn't be able to take this graphic design class without your help. Well... maybe I could have but it would have been a lot harder. I'd feel like a really shitty friend if I didn't at least say thanks."
"You aren't a bad friend, Virgil. You're a good person. Even if you don't always see it."
"Thanks."
They sat in silence for a minute before Logan stood up again.
"I should get what I need and head to the library."
"Yeah, I'll see you later."
Virgil turned back to his work while Logan rummaged through his desk in the background. A few minutes later he was gone and the room was silent again. He thought about turning on music, but he was about done with his project and needed to watch some of his Spanish videos.
He sighed as he opened a new tab and went into Classroom to find the videos he needed for Spanish. He pulled out a binder and a pencil and turned to a clean page for notes.
He felt his phone buzz and paused the video to look at it. It was from Patton. Virgil glanced at the time. He didn't realize how late it was. He pocketed his phone and left his room, closing the door behind him. He sent Patton a response as he walked down the hall to the stairs and headed down to the main floor. He walked into the dining hall and scanned his student ID to pay for entry before finding his friends at a table.
"You're alive!" Janus said.
"I'd like to think so," Virgil said.
Thomas' phone went off and he looked down before walking away to answer it. Virgil decided to go make himself a plate. He got some pasta and a drink before sitting down at the table.
"So, what have you been doing upstairs all by yourself?" Patton asked.
"Just messing around with the new graphic design software. We had gone over some of the features today in class but the professor wanted us to mess with it a little on our own and work on a small project. I think I can get the hang of it."
"You've been up there doing that this whole time?" Roman asked.
"Well, for the most part, but then I decided to do some Spanish. I kind of liked the quiet. I don't know if I'll do that everyday, but I'll definitely do it again in the future."
"Just text us if you need anything," Roman said.
Virgil nodded as he took a bite of pasta. Thomas returned with a sad look on his face. He sat down and set his phone in front of him. Everyone glanced at each other as of asking who should ask Thomas first. Luckily, Joan stepped in. They set a hand on Thomas' arm causing Thomas to look at them. They seemed to be communicating wordlessly before Thomas broke into tears.
"H-he... he broke up with me," Thomas sobbed as Joan placed an arm around him. "I-I don't understand! We-we were happy over break! I don't know what happened! He just called and-and now he w-wants to break up!"
"I'm sorry," Joan said. "I know you loved him. But sometimes people don't make sense. I don't know what his reasons are, but we just have to respect them... even though it sucks."
They sat in silence for a bit before Joan and Thomas decided to head to their dorms taking some food with them. The others remained in awkward silence for a bit.
"I... didn't even know he was dating anyone," Virgil muttered.
"It didn't come up that often," Logan said.
"You guys knew?" Virgil asked.
Patton shrugged.
"His boyfriend actually drove up with him and Joan to help him move in. He seemed like a nice guy," Patton explained.
"It's probably better we don't know him. We're less likely to be tied to the body," Remus said.
"We aren't killing him!" Roman protested.
"Why not?!" Remus asked.
"Besides obvious legal issues?" Janus asked. "He lives in Florida and we don't have any sort of address or means of travel. Joan and Thomas aren't likely to give you his address and travelling to Florida and then disappearing shortly after he does would be quite a red flag. You wouldn't be able to get away with it. You're too messy."
"How dare you insult my ability to get away with murder!"
"You aren't killing him! I forbid it!" Patton scolded.
"Ooh. Now you got Dad mad," Virgil said.
"Look, Thomas is upset, killing his ex isn't going to make him feel any better. Let's just focus on Thomas right now. We'll talk to Joan about how to help since they know him best but I suggest you keep talk of murder to yourself for now," Logan said sternly.
"Whatever. You guys are no fun," Remus pouted.
