Virgil stared out the window for most of the trip listening to Janus' music. After almost an hour of driving, they pulled into a parking lot of an apartment complex. They grabbed their stuff and walked into the building and up to the second floor. Janus knocked on a door and it opened a few minutes later. A pair of arms pulled Janus into the room embracing him in a hug.
"Oh! My baby's home! How are you, Baby!"
"I'm good! I'm good! Mama, this is my friend, Virgil."
Janus left the embrace and Virgil got a good look at the short woman standing before him. She had short curly black hair and a slightly plump figure. She stepped forward and pulled Virgil into an embrace.
"Well, hello there, Sugar! You can call me Grace."
"Oh, uh, thank you for letting me stay here over break."
"Oh sure thing, Baby! Janus here needs to get out of the house more and spend time with friends! I'm glad he has people to be around!"
"Mamaaaa!" Janus whined.
"You know it's true! You'd be spending all break on that Xbox of your's if you could!"
"We might still do that," Janus muttered. "Virgil just got out of his cast so he can't really do anything too strenuous right now."
"Cast? What happened?!"
"Oh... I was in a car wreck and broke my leg. I was on crutches for two months. I just got off of them yesterday."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear about that! I'm glad you're off them though!"
"Yeah! I was so sick of them! I just wanted to throw them out a window!"
"I wouldn't suggest throwing them out a window. Maybe off the balcony later."
"Wait, are you serious?!" Virgil asked as his face lit up.
"As long as you don't hit anybody, I don't care. Just don't do it during the day or the landlord will have a fit!"
"Awesome!" Virgil laughed.
"Told you she'd let you do it!" Janus said.
"Don't go telling everyone now! I don't need trouble!"
"Don't worry! I won't! Come on Virgil, I'll show you to my room."
Virgil followed Janus down the hall. Janus pointed to the various rooms to tell him what they were before opening a door leading to Janus' room. Virgil stepped into the room. The walls were gray and covered in various photos and posters of bands and musicals. A dark bookshelf sat in a corner covered in a wide variety of books and knick-knacks. In another corner stood a desk where Janus was setting his stuff. He then sat down on a twin bed covered in black and yellow sheets. Virgil noticed a mattress sitting on the floor with a set of blankets folded on top with a pillow.
"Looks like my mom set a place for you to sleep already."
"Are you sure you're okay sharing your room?" Virgil asked.
"I wouldn't have offered to let you stay if I wasn't!" Janus laughed. "Do you still have work tonight?"
Virgil groaned as he set his stuff down in a corner on the floor.
"I'll take that as a yes," Janus said.
"Yeah," Virgil sighed. "I'm glad I'm off of crutches. Now I can do something other than the register! I hate talking to people!"
Janus laughed.
"Yeah, people are stupid most of the time. I'm glad I managed to find some people with at least a little bit of brains."
"Collectively we might be able to make a whole brain."
"I already have a whole one, don't count me in that mess."
"You think you're better than us?"
"In some ways, but that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying I'm smarter."
Virgil laughed and shook his head.
"Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night."
"Right and where do you classify your brains?"
"More than Roman less than Logan."
"Ouch. Attacking your own boyfriend's intelligence?"
"He's great and all but a bit of an idiot sometimes," Virgil shrugged.
"It could be worse. He could be Remus."
"Oh gosh! Remus! I still can't believe he licked the deodorant!"
"I believe it. You didn't share a room with him!"
"Oh right! That had to have been interesting."
"It had its ups and downs. Remus is an idiot sometimes but he's also a lot of fun. It was fun planning pranks with him and watching them unfold! But he also never wanted to do his work so I had to baby him sometimes."
"You didn't have to actually do that. I'm sure Patton or Logan would have done the same."
"Yeah, but he's my roommate and they were helping everyone else with their work. Besides, Remus is kind of a task of his own."
"I guess I can see that."
"Anyway, do you want to play a game or something? My Xbox is a little old, but it's still good and I have a spare controller."
"I've never played before, but I can try."
"You'll get the hang of it! It's in the living room."
Janus led them back to the living room and set up the game. The two played for a few hours. Virgil sucked at it. He kept messing up and dying but it was still fun. He laughed when he failed and Janus laughed with him trying to give him tips to improve. Grace sat in the living room with them and talked to them while they played. A few hours later, Virgil had to leave for work. Janus drove them out and decided to stay in the area until his shift was over since they had longer to drive now.
After his shift the boys went back to Janus' apartment. They sat in the parking lot for a minute before grabbing Virgil's crutches from the backseat. They grinned at each other before Virgil climbed the stairs. He stood on the balcony and looked down at Janus who had his phone out ready to record. Janus gave him a thumbs up and he threw the crutches off the side. He leaned over and smiled as he watched them hit the ground. He laughed as Janus grabbed them and ran up the stairs. Virgil went inside and Janus burst into the room laughing a minute later. The two looked over the video before sending it to the group chat with the caption "fuck 'em."
