Mon March 1
Virgil sighed as he left his last class. He was actually kind of sad to leave it. He hadn't even realized until today that his graphic design class only lasted half of the semester. Sure, that meant less work and more time for him to do other things, but this was one of the classes he actually liked. Most of the others were just his gen-eds and if he was honest, he wasn't very fond of them. He could do without the running around and textbooks. He couldn't wait until he was just focusing on art. Although, it would be kind of weird working on a bunch of different projects at once, but it didn't seem like a bad time. He didn't mind doing things he actually liked doing.
He sat down in the student center and pulled out his textbook. As much as he wanted to work on his other work, he knew he needed to get his geology reading done for class tomorrow. It was getting really boring and tedious. He was glad there wasn't actually a midterm. He took the first major test already while he wasn't insanely trying to study for a bunch of different subjects at once. Sure, he still has other big projects to do next week, but it was better than last semester.
The others slowly joined around him, all pulling out their own assignments to work on to prepare for the upcoming exams. Virgil could feel the stress somewhere deep inside of him, but he was doing his best to keep it at bay. He knew it'd bite him later, but right now he had other things to worry about.
"Happy birthday, Joan!" Thomas yelled making Virgil jump.
"What did I say about the yelling! Warn a dude next time!" Virgil said as he tried to collect himself.
"Sorry, I'm just excited! It's Joan's birthday!"
"You already said 'happy birthday' this morning when we woke up," Joan said as they sat down.
"And?"
"Oh, sorry. I assumed once was enough."
"Maybe for some people, but not my best friend!"
"Best friend? I thought you were sick of me."
"Not on your birthday. I can be sick of you tomorrow."
"That sounds accurate."
"Did you want to go out today to celebrate?" Patton asked.
"If you don't mind, I'd rather just go out with Thomas? It's not that I don't enjoy your company, I just don't want a big thing. I've known Thomas a lot longer and would rather just do a small thing with him. We can still do cupcakes or whatever when we get back," Joan said.
"If that's what you want, sure!" Patton said.
"No pranks while they're gone," Janus said pointing at Remus.
Remus let out an exaggerated sigh.
"You never let me do anything fun!"
"I swear you're going to be the reason I start drinking," Janus muttered turning back to his textbook.
Virgil laughed lightly to himself as he went back to his own reading. He couldn't help but think about Remus and Janus again. A part of him really wished there was something he could do, but he knew there wasn't much. Roman had asked him not to get involved in Remus' love life and he wasn't even sure if Janus reciprocated. It would be a little weird for him to ask Janus out of the blue about his feelings.
Virgil sighed as he flipped to the next page. He knew it wasn't really his place to get involved in these matters, but he could still hope it all worked out in the end. He decided to just try to focus on his reading and notes but it was hard. He started doodling in the margins of his paper again instead of reading.
He heard movement and looked up to see Joan and Thomas leave. He checked the time on his phone. He hadn't even realized how long he had been doodling until they brought him back to reality. He glanced around at the others to see them all focused on their own things. He looked back down at his work before sighing again and getting up for water. Patton looked up when he sat back down.
"Everything okay?" he asked.
Virgil nodded. He didn't know why he was so distracted today. He just couldn't seem to make himself focus. It didn't help that he didn't really want to do the work. He'd rather stare out of the window for the next hour than read another page, but he knew he'd hate himself later for wasting time like that.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just needed water," Virgil said quietly as he tried to find his place again.
Patton tapped his pencil on the table a few times before returning to his work. Virgil stared at his textbook. He really didn't want to go back to his reading. He sighed and rested his chin in his hand and he went back to his reading. He was unbelievably bored right now though. He wanted to go back to doodling, but he knew he needed to get his work done. He decided to try to get at least one page read first.
He managed one page and tried pushing it to another before just giving up. He decided to look over his Spanish and see what he could get done. He did as much as he could before scooting closer to Roman and being as distracting as he could to get his attention.
"What's wrong?" Roman asked as Virgil laid his head on Roman's shoulder.
"Spanish."
"You need help?" Virgil nodded. "Give me a minute. I need to finish this first."
Virgil didn't move. He watched Roman type his paper while he waited. After a second Roman turned to look at him.
"Virgil, I love you, but I need my arm."
"You're no fun," Virgil pouted as he sat up.
"You two are disgustingly adorable," Janus said.
"You're just jealous," Virgil said sticking out his tongue.
"I don't get jealous. Especially not of you."
"Wow, tell me how you really feel."
"Be nice, you two!" Patton scolded.
"But Daaaad!" they argued in unison.
"I don't want to hear it!"
Janus and Virgil stared at each other before sticking their tongues out and going back to their work. Patton shook his head as he went back to his own work.
It took a little while for Roman to finish his paper. He finally scooted closer to help Virgil go over his Spanish. They were still working on it when Thomas and Joan returned with cupcakes.
"Sing and I'll kill you," Joan said as they sat down.
"You know you can't really stop us," Thomas said.
"Not here."
"I'm going to get everyone in the student center involved just to spite you," Remus said standing up.
"Remus I swear to-"
Remus took a deep breath and started singing loudly. Roman shook his head but Virgil could see him trying to hold back a laugh. Remus tapped Roman's shoulder and it wasn't long before Roman shrugged and joined him. Virgil started laughing at this point. Patton, Thomas, and Janus joined in soon after and Virgil noticed a few students around the room join in as well. Joan was looking at them all horrified. Logan actually looked up from his work and was just watching it all go down. After they finished singing, the student center erupted into applause. Remus and Roman took a bow before sitting back down and laughing.
"Remus, I fucking swear I will end you," Joan said glaring at him.
Remus just smiled proudly.
"It was worth it."
"Stop laughing!" Joan yelled.
"I- I can't help it!" Virgil laughed.
"I hate all of you!"
"We love you too," Janus said.
