TW anxiety, cursing, arguing
(A/N So, for those who don't know Wattpad has a chapter limit which I'm getting a little too close to hitting. 😅 So, some of these chapters might be a little longer. This one is over 3000 words, which is the longest one in this book. Enjoy!)
Fri March 19
The others decided to head back so some of them could visit their families before the break was over. Janus planned to drag him back to Grace's for the weekend. Apparently, she had asked to see the two of them at some point during the break. Virgil still wasn't used to someone asking to see him. He felt a little weird every time she texted him, but it also felt nice to actually feel like he was wanted somewhere.
After they ate breakfast and packed up their stuff, they decided where to stop for lunch. The trip was almost as chaotic as on the way up. Roman started singing and Remus soon joined in only to lead to an argument over Remus "ruining the song" by purposely singing badly. Virgil would argue with him, but he knew Remus could sing on key if he wanted. Remus acted proud of himself and Janus threatened to throw both of them out of the car.
They stopped for gas before meeting at the restaurant. Virgil took the opportunity to stretch as soon as he was out of the car. As much as he liked sitting in the corner away from the world, it was different in a car when he couldn't readjust his position. Logan pulled Virgil aside while the others walked into the restaurant.
"I know you don't want to think about it, but we can't exactly avoid this any longer," Logan said. "Patton and I have been talking and we think we should stop by your dad's before we get to campus. Thomas agreed to switch cars so you can ride with us. I know you're concerned about how the others will react around him."
Virgil curled in on himself. He bit his lip as he went over Logan's words in his head. He didn't want to talk to his dad. He really wished there was another way to deal with this situation but he couldn't think of anything.
"I... uh... Are you sure we have to do this so soon?"
Logan nodded.
"The longer we wait the more anxious you'll get over it. It's better to just get this over with before classes start up again. That way you won't have to worry about it alongside your work. Also, you can start applying for jobs again over the weekend so you won't stress over that either. I just need his address and we'll drive you."
"I... Do we really have to do this? I-"
"Yes."
"But I'm sure we could-"
"Virgil, I understand your concern, but they are your legal documents. You need them. He should have given them to you in the first place when he kicked you out."
"I don't think it was meant to be permanent," Virgil muttered.
"Even still, you can't prove citizenship without documentation. You might be able to get your social security number from the school, but you still need your documents once you have the job."
Virgil groaned. He could have delayed this conversation if he had thought about asking the school for his social. He knew it was too late now, though, and as much as he hated to admit it, Logan wasn't wrong.
"Fine," Virgil sighed. "I'll... I'll text it to you."
"Do it now."
Virgil hesitated before pulling out his phone. He typed out the address and hit send. Logan's phone went off a second later. Logan checked it before giving him a small smile and leading him inside. They found the others joking around with each other while waiting for a table. Patton glanced at them as they walked in before walking over to give Virgil a hug.
