Tails, not looking up from his workspace, held out his hand towards D-Fekt, a robot that they rescued from Eggman. "Shifting spanner."

D-Fekt grabbed it with his powers and handed it to Tails. The kitsune took the time to lift his protective helmet and grinned at D-Fekt. " Why did Eggman ever get rid of you? You're the greatest helper I've ever had!"

D-Fekt grinned happily, heart emojis floating over his head.

"Hand me that hammer."

D-Fekt handed Tails the hammer. The kitsune started hammering his invention. Hearing rattling, D-Fekt looked up to see one of Tails' devices threatening to fall off the shelf. The little robot began beeping and jumping up and down, trying to get Tails to see the little trouble.

"What?" Tails asked, looking up at the frantic robot. "Did Timmy fall down a well?"

The device fell, smashing to the ground. Tails glared at D-Fekt. "Why didn't you catch it using your powers?"

D-Fekt glanced down sadly. Tails sighed and smiled reassuringly at the bot. "Don't worry about it. I'll clean this up while you run into town and get me the parts for a new one."

D-Fekt saluted Tails. This was one thing he could do.

Or so he thought. The little robot ran up to the shopkeeper, waving his arms and using his emoji signals. The shopkeeper frowned flatly at him. "What is it, boy? Did Timmy fall down a well?"

D-Fekt made an annoyed noise and started hopping up and down, waving his arms.

"I see; if you want to use the restroom, you have to buy something."

"Hey, D-Fekt!" Penny grinned, running up and hugging the little robot. "What's up, my favorite robot?" When she released D-Fekt, the little robot tried telling her what Tails needed.

Sonic walked up with the rest of his team. Knuckles glanced curiously at D-Fekt, thinking he was playing a game of charades. "He's either looking for a loaf of bread or a penguin wearing a top hat. I'm leaning toward penguin."

Sonic tried next. " No, no; uh, it's a book. It's a movie! Oh, it's a--it's a movie based on a book!"

"Somehow I don't think that he means any of that stuff." Penny said, glancing at D-Fekt, who was shrieking and hopping up and down, narrowing his eyes.

When the gang walked back, they dropped a bunch of gunk at Tails' feet. Tails frowned, glancing up at the team. " What's all this? I just sent D-Fekt out to get parts for a new Trans-seismic Marco Accelerator."

D-Fekt glared at the team. Penny patted his shoulder apologetically. " Sorry, buddy. I didn't know you meant that!"

D-Fekt gave her a cheeky grin.

Sonic sighed. "This would've been a whole lot easier if D-Fekt could just talk."

And right at that, D-Fekt looked pretty annoyed.

Tails looked up. "Maybe I could install a voice chip. I know I have one around here somewhere."

Amy frowned at him. "You had a voice chip the whole time? Why didn't you install it earlier?"

Tails looked sheepish. "Guess I needed an inciting incident."

"Yeah. Something like that." Penny said.

Tails finished screw driving the installer in and smiled at D-Fekt. "That should do it; say something."
