"What?" Kennedy mumbled with tears in her eyes as she looked to Hagrid who was petting Buckbeak's head with such love and care that it made Kennedy's heart ache.
After Kennedy and George had made it back to Hogwarts and cleared up a few things with Dumbledore before Snape and Filch could bust Kennedy, she had bid George goodbye and was headed back towards her dorm to hangout with Maisie and Alicia like she promised until an owl swooped by and dropped a letter at her feet.
Hagrid had sent the letter in warning to Kennedy.
He mentioned how after the incident with Malfoy that had happened the ministry was very unhappy with the actions that Buckbeak held when confronted and claimed that he was a cruel and vicious animal that needed to be taken care of properly.
Along with that Hagrid mentioned how they weren't even aware that there was a griffin on the school grounds and that she would've been in trouble for not registering the animal if it weren't for the fact that when they went into her family files they found that she was in her fathers Will and Testament and that he had made a very specific list of everything she was to be given during the time he may pass away.
Which, included Soot.
So, technically the animal was hers since her father had been believed to be dead for awhile.
Although once she heard the news she knew the ministry would be keeping an eye out on Soot so she made sure to keep him in the forest as much as possible and make sure he wasn't flying around the school anymore.
She even had to make the move to inform him that Hagrid was going to need to take care of him for awhile because she didn't want to have to go and visit him just for some ministry officials to show up and make her fill out constant forms of all his actions, his diet and even things about his personality that were very useless unless you were the one taking care of the creature.
Soot had not been very pleased with this news since he had taken the roll of the protector for Kennedy when she was away from the school grounds, but he truly did not have a choice in the matter and that upset him dearly.
So when Kennedy raced down to Hagrid's hut to see him and Buckbeak she was devastated to not see her griffin friend to say the least.
"I don't understand? I mean.. Okay, well it Is understandable but- Buckbeak can barely even hurt a little rabbit when he see's one! Malfoy was just a prick and decided to try and show off when he knew what the consequences were! This wasn't Buckbeak's fault at all." Kennedy sighed out of frustration as she looked to Hagrid who held a sorrowful frown on his face.
"How did they even come to the decision that Buckbeak needed to be.. sentenced to death?" Kennedy asked him gently as she sat on a large pumpkin next to Buckbeak who was cleaning his feathers completely unbothered.
"Well, we were talkin'... and then I got up and did my piece. Mentioned how Buckbeak was a good hippogriff, always cleaned his feathers just like he is now." Hagrid state with a sniffle as he wiped his eyes. "And then Lucius Malfoy got up and you can imagine how that went. He said Buckbeak was a deadly and dangerous creature... who would kill you as soon as look at you."
Kennedy frowned at what Hagrid had said and soon enough her blood began to boil. She had to take a few deep breath's to control herself and soon enough she was able to look up to the man calmly.
"And that's when..?"
"They decided to sentence him to death." Hagrid cried silently as two stray tears fell from his eyes. With all the loss and loneliness Kennedy had experienced in her life, she knew there was nothing one could truly say to make this better, so instead of saying anything she stood up and sat next to Hagrid on the ground.
