Kennedy's eyes were blurred in a flurry of furious tears that threatened to stream down her face at any moment as she walked mindlessly through the halls.

Everything had been perfectly fine.

Her friends were happy and headed home two days ago and Kennedy was perfectly fine spending her winter break with Leighton and Gabrielle who had decided they were going to stay at the school for their break.

All until just this morning when Dumbledore called her to his office. Originally she hadn't thought anything of the man calling to her. In fact, it had become something relatively normal to her over the last few years she had been in school.

Sometimes Dumbledore and McGonagall would check in on her and make sure everything was okay, while other times they just simply wanted to make sure that she didn't need anything immediately since she wasn't allowed to leave school grounds unless it was summertime.

Though this time seemed to be different.

"I'll talk to you guy's later okay?" Kennedy state to Gabrielle and Leighton who smiled and waved her off while walking down the hall away from the large griffin statue that she was stood in front of.

Swiftly and quietly Kennedy muttered the password and soon enough the griffin started to spin upward, revealing a swirling staircase that Kennedy carefully stepped onto.

Seconds passed by and eventually she managed to make it to the top where the door to Dumbledore's office remained, and so she knocked on the door before opening it and walking in.

Kennedy's smile had remained on her face until she walked further into the room to see Dumbledore, Umbridge, and Nova standing with every negative facial expression upon their face that you could possibly think of.

Well, all except Umbridge who seemed to hold a rather satisfied grin upon her face.

All their eyes snapped toward Kennedy who's eyes switched among theirs in a frantic frenzy and immediately she understood what was happening.

"Wait- you're actually firing Nova?" Kennedy state appalled as she walked right up to the group of adults. "Professor Dumbledore, you can't let her do this-"

"It just so happens that I have no overall authority to this situation Miss Deadlock." Dumbledore state sadly. "It was a Ministry decision to have Nova hired in the first place. Therefore it is a Ministry decided to have her dismissed for whatever length of time they so view fit."

Kennedy's mouth was stuck open as she rubbed her eyes with a grunt of frustration. In a fit of confusion, rage, and sadness, Kennedy spun to look at Umbridge who raised her eyebrows in anticipation of what she was going to say.

"Why?" Kennedy asked feebly, and it almost shocked Umbridge at the single-word answer that was being given.

"Why what, dear?" The women state with harshly fake kindness.

"Why are you doing this? Why fire Nova-"

"Because she is no longer seen fit to match you and your needs-"

"Me and my needs?!" Kennedy hollered. "You think you have the ability to tell me what my needs are over myself? Nova is the best thing that has probably ever happened to me, and she has kept me safe and self-aware for the last how many years! So as far as I can see, there isn't a single reason as to why you're doing this."

Nobody said a word for a split moment as Umbridge gathered her thoughts. From the corner of Kennedy's eye, she could see Nova giving her a soft smile, but she wouldn't return it as the denial began to sit in.
