Chapter 40 - Whomping Willow

The great hall was just as Kennedy remembered. Everything remained warm and comforting though there was a slight different feel to the school as a whole. When they first arrived Kennedy and her friends didn't get to hangout by the carriages like they normally would, instead they had been ushered into the school and straight toward there common rooms.

None of her friends had been able to go see Leighton, Benny, Gabrielle or Milo and most of them had gone straight to there dorms to unpack before dinner was to be served. Once Maisie, Kennedy and the girls had managed to unpack there stuff they had quickly ran to the great hall since they all were feeling fairly famished after there unpacking that was momentarily stalled due to a much needed pillow fight.

Though now they would end up back in there dorm later tonight to clean up the massive mess of feathers that now littered their floor.

Now Kennedy and Maisie sat next to one another across from Fred, George and Lee who had Katie beside him while Angelina and Alicia were sat next to Maisie. Hermione was sat to Kennedy's left while Harry and Ron were next to George and Fred across from Hermione.

The food the kitchen elves had made had yet to present themselves which usually meant that Dumbledore had wanted to say his usual beginning of the year speech, though to Kennedy she had a feeling that this speech was going to be a bit more.. purposeful.

And she was right.

"Welcome! Welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Dumbledore announced from his pedestal at the front of the hall.

All the teachers sat behind him but Kennedy had found it weird how two teachers had been missing. Not only was Professor Kettleburn missing but so had Professor Lockhart.

With a nudge to Maisie's side Kennedy looked to her with confusion.

"May, where's Professor Lockfart?" At first Maisie was confused that her best friend hadn't known where the man was, though a second after she remembered how Kennedy had been petrified during the entire chamber of secrets stuff.

"Oh, right.. when me and Leighton went into the chamber of secrets with Ron and Harry he tried to wipe our memories with Ron's wand which backfired directly onto him. Now he's at St Mungo's with severe memory loss to the point where they had to retrain him to respond to his name." Maisie explained which left Kennedy with a speechless looking expression.

"Well then.. so that's why there's a new man over there." Kennedy hummed to which Maisie nodded her head.

"Now, I'd like to say a few words... before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast. First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin, who's kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher." Dumbledore announced. "Good luck Professor."

"Do you guy's think he's the guy who stopped the freaky things on the train?" Fred mumbled while Alicia shrugged her shoulders.

"I mean it would make sense." She replied though she had been slightly skeptical.

"Of course he was." Hermione butt in from Kennedy's left. "On the train Harry had an issue with them and ended up fainting. Professor Lupin knew to give him chocolate." She explained.

"Wow." Katie and George hummed while both Maisie and Kennedy snuggled into one another lightly with frowns on there faces as they spoke at the same time.

"I want chocolate."

The people around them laughed at the two though it was short lived when a whispering noise came form behind Harry which dragged Kennedy's attention to none other then Draco Malfoy.

"Potter. Is it true you fainted? I mean, you actually fainted?" He laughed out with a taunting disbelief on his face.

"Shove off, Malfoy." Ron growled while Kennedy waved to Draco with a fake smile on her face before she let her expression fall while she pretended to crank her middle finger up at him.
