A gasp left Kennedy's mouth as her body hit the rough gravel underneath her soft, bruised skin. Her muscles that had ached for so long finally relaxed some, though the pulsing of her muscles from the adrenaline rushing through her continued to put pressure on her.
McGonagall was leant over her, tears pooling in her eyes as she stare down at the girl whose breathing was pained and rushed. Her eyes glossy and distant as she looked into the sky that called out to her in a hushed whisper as it's breath stroked her face.
The sun felt much warmer against Kennedy's face in this moment, and for just a second she let her eyes close to enjoy the warmth of the fire above. The one fire that gave her comfort instead of hate filled memories that burnt her flesh.
Slowly a light began to appear in her vision where she knew the sun had not been before. And then and there her fate was sealed in a neatly put together envelope, stamped shut with the blood from her very own skin.
The world above her moved slowly for a minute, blurs of color combining together which caused her to have the need to blink sharply so she could see clearly for even just a moment.
When her eyes clenched shut, they closed for a moment longer before they opened again to see something new in her focus.
George leaning above her, tears staining his cheeks while Maisie joined at his side, and soon enough so did Gabriel. There astonished faces caused a shaky laugh to leave Kennedy's breath that sent an abundance of joy through her as blood leaked from the corned or her mouth.
"I got you all good, d-didn't I?" Kennedy croaked.
Not a word left anyone's mouth as they gazed completely shocked down at the girl whose body still shook, though now it was more like the tremble of a dying flame.
"Why- what-" George sputtered out, completely unsure of what to say or do with his body anymore.
"Shhh..." Kennedy hummed as she brought her hand shakily up to cup his cheek.
Though her face contort slightly as she focused her eyes to her hand, streaking his damp cheek. She could feel the wetness against his skin... the rough patches of dry skin, the dried dirt caked on his skin, and most important when he brought his hand to hers, she could feel it.
A small smile tickled her mouth as she let her head fall gently back onto the ground underneath it.
Oh how happy she was to be able to feel him again. She couldn't remember how his skin had felt, or how smooth the corners of his lips were, but now she could. And so her thumb pet his cheek, in long slow strokes as she gazed deeply into the mans eyes.
"It's okay... you forgave me, remember?" Kennedy said casually as if nothing were happening. "You forgave me, and you- you can't take that back."
George's eyes became broken dams as tears fluttered over his eye lashes, dripping down onto Kennedy's collarbone. He was speechless, and Kennedy knew it.
"Kennedy..." Maisie whispered tenderly as she bent down to Kennedy's right, grabbing her free hand from the floor where it lay still, that part of her body already having gone dead.
Though the warmth she could still feel from the girls skin.
"You did everything right, you know." Kennedy swallowed. "You made all the right decisions and got through everything when I wasn't there to help you. You never really needed me... you were always all you ever needed."
"No..." Maisie choked on her sobs. "No, I need you Kennedy. I need you. You can't leave me, I won't let you."
A small smile hit Kennedy's lips and she wet her lips as she quote what the girl had said back in the forest when all hope was lost.
