When a Lynx Meets a Leopard [Ash Lynx x fem reader]

~Chapter 14: Chinatown~

(Y/n) POV

After the visit to see Ash in prison, Ibe suggested that I stay with him and Eiji. I happily accepted, longing for a good rest and some company. I slept on the sofa for about two hours before waking again. I yawned, pushing myself up from the sofa and stretching. "Ibe! Eiji! I'm going out." I called, walking over to the door and twisting the handle. "Okay, be safe!" Eiji called back from somewhere in the house.

The walk to Chinatown was uneventful. No one batted an eye at me. I had heard its dangerous around here, not that a little danger would stop me. I buried my hands into the hoodie I was wearing. It was the one that Ash gave me, apart from it didn't smell of him as Ibe had insisted on washing it. As I walked down the street, I felt eye baring into my back. I slowed my pace and pulled my phone out of my pocket, turning the front camera on and looking behind me. I made it look like I was fixing my non-existent make-up. Sure enough, a man dressed in normal clothes and a baseball cap was following me.  I sighed and continued to walk to Chang Dai.

After a few minuets, I stopped and glanced around. Two guys were sat on a doorstep smoking and chatting between themselves.  "Excuse me, do you know where Chang Dai is? It should be around here somewhere." I asked, stepping closer to them. "Who the hell are you?" One of them growled as they both stood up and towered over me. I sighed and looked up and one of them dead in the eye. "My name is irrelevant. I'm looking for a guy called Shorter Wong. Ash Lynx sent me." I rolled my eyes, putting my weight in one foot and leaning to the side. "Ash sent you?"
"Yes, now tell me, where is Chang Dai?" 
"Shorter ain't here. Arthurs men are trying to hunt him down." The taller guy with curly brown hair said with a sigh. "Chang Dai is around that corner by the barbershop." The shorter of the two pointed down the road at a barbershop. "Thanks." I smiled sweetly, walking down the road he pointed out. I walked inside the shop, still aware of the guy following me.

It was a pretty simple looking diner. A few people were scattered among various tables. "Table for one?" I looked sideways at a young woman. "Please."
"Sit wherever you'd like." She hummed and walked off. I walked over to a table near the middle and sat down. "I didn't come here to eat." I mutter to myself. An old man popped up from the table, holding a cup of steaming tea. "Here, this is for you. For free." He smiled with his eyes closed as he sat down opposite me. "I'm Chang. This is my restaurant."  He lied, still smiling. It was clear that the man before me was not Chang, but Shorter. He seemed to know I was being followed so I played along. "I'm looking for Shorter Wong. I have something important I must tell him." I smiled gently, resting my chin in the palm of my hand. "Well that's too bad. He's not here now. Nobody knows where he is." 'Chang' said, looking at the table in front of him. "I see. Do you know of a Dr. Meredith?" 

I stayed in the shop until nightfall, chatting with Shorter and eating ramen. After that, I headed to this Dr. Meredith's supposed place of residence. Well, not necessarily where they lived, but where they worked. I knocked once on the door before entering. "Hello, I've come to-"  I was cut off my none other that Arthur wrapping his fingers around my throat and pushing me against a wall. "Hello little leopard, I've been waiting for you." He chuckled, as another guy tied my wrists together with zip ties. "I bet you're glad to hear I cant kill you as you are a precious gift for Dino. My guys were following you here, thanks for guiding us." He smirked, looking down on me. "Yeah, and they were shit at it as well. I could tell they were following me. As for a 'precious gift for Dino' I'm not quite so precious now I'm damaged. Oh, and who do we have to blame for that?" I growled, referring to the still-healing scar that ran down the left side of my face. 

"What did Ash tell you?" Arthur demanded, ignoring my previous comments. "Nothing." I replied, smiling sweetly while internally panicking.  "Kill her." Arthur order one of his men, who pulled a woman closer to him and pressed a knife against her throat. "Leave her alone!" A man who knelt down next to me pleaded, his hands also behind him and his eye black and swollen. "Talk or she dies." Arthur crossed his arms, leaning over me. Despite being an assassin, I still hated the idea of innocent people being killed. I had often turned down jobs because the victim hadn't done anything wrong. I stared Arthur in the eye. "He said to retrieve what he left here. Don't ask me what, as I haven't an idea." It was half true. I had been sent here to get something for Ash, but I also knew what. "A bottle with powder in it? About this size?" A crazy looking guy asked excitedly, jumping out from behind Arthur. "I don't know. He just said its in that draw." I muttered, gesturing to a draw in the far corner as best as I could. 

As soon as the crazy guy found it, he fell to the ground with happiness. It looked like he was worshipping the small amount of white powder. I heard someone move about in the curtained off part of the lab room, but didn't say anything. "Kill her." Arthur repeated. "Oi! I talked." I spat angrily, just to be ignored. "You, I'll take. Ash will suffer watching Dino have fun with you." I winced at the idea of being in Dino's hand again, my gaze falling to the floor for a moment. Arthur took that opportunity to drive the knife deeper. "I'm gonna crush everything that's important to him." He laughed sadistically, raising his scarred hand up to the rooms' light. "Skip died. These people will too. You will be drugged by the old fuck. And then sucked to the bone." Arthur grabbed my (h/c) hair, pulling my head back roughly. I smiled a little. "Oh trust me, I know. But you, Arthur, are out of your bloody mind." I spat in his face, making him pull away and wipe his face, annoyed. "He's made a fool of me all this time. He'll pay till he dies. If you wanna die with dignity, I suggest you take your own life." He chuckled, turning away and walking towards the door. "I'll even let Ash watch."
"Trust me, I've tried. Never seems to work out for me." I smirked as I heard a gun being cocked from behind Arthur. "Its your life that's gonna end." The oh-so-familiar voice of Shorter Wong said as he pressed the barrel of his gun against Arthurs head. "Shorter." I smiled at him, to which he returned without taking his attention off Arthur. "You big mouth was so loud you didn't hear your watchmen go down." Shorter hummed. "Drop 'em. Or I'll blow his brains out." He commanded, pressing the gun against Arthur head again to remind him it was there. "Fuck." Some of the men muttered, releasing the people they were holding as well as dropping their weapons. "Forget it, old man. You cant kill people." I hummed with amusement as the crazy guy wearing a lab coat raised his own handgun. No one moved for a moment, the tense atmosphere leaking out into the hallways. The whole room fell silent when the curtain separating us from another space drifted open. 

"G-Griff! No way. No, you're supposed to be dead!" The man wearing a lab coat yelped, jumping back from the curtain. "Why are you here?" He yelled from what looked like fear. "You... banana fish. Abra..." Griff muttered, stumbling over his words as he stepped closer to the fearful scientist. "Stay away!" He yelled, raising his gun to point at Griff's chest. "No!" The guy beside me with the black eye called, but it was too late. The scientist had already pulled the trigger, firing a bullet straight through Griff's chest.

"No..." I whispered, watching helplessly as the man who had been shot fell to the floor.
