(Y/n)'s POV
The next thing I knew, I standing on top of a building with Ash and Shorter, watching Club Cod from afar. Ash had a pair of binoculars in his hand. "It looks like any plain old restaurant so it doesn't rouse any suspicions. He only brings a minimal number of men with him. He doesn't want to scare off his customers." Ash explains further, lowering the binos and passing them to me. "Ah, so that's why you chose today." I mumbled as I peered down at the 'restaurant'. Ash nodded and I passed the binos to Shorter. "I wish I didn't have to ask Lee for his help, though."
"But he doesn't like Golzine so he's on our side, right? Unless he has an ulterior motive..." I shifted my weight from one foot to the other. "He's just interested in what came between the old man and me." Ash placed a hand on my shoulder, breaking me out of the small daze of thought I was in.
We turned around and started retreating from the edge of the building. "He knows all about what went on." Ash sighed, his hand still resting on my shoulders. "Yeah, his men are the ones who found out you'd broken loose." Shorter added from behind us.
Ash came up with a plan. One which involved me driving like a maniac, something I was apparently specialised in. So the next day, I jumped in the drivers side of a large truck, started the engine and drove into a warehouse. Once inside, I stopped and waited for Ash's signal. He walked towards the truck and slapped the drivers side door, telling me to go. Shorter glanced at me, making sure I still wanted to drive. I nodded at him in response, starting the engine up again and turning out of the warehouse. Now for the fun part. Once I had driven the truck out of the house, I turned it directly into the middle of the street. Running over small stalls, I make a bee-line for Club Cod. People scattered everywhere, avoiding being hit. I could hear footsteps above from the roof of the vehicle, followed by gunshots. Lots of them. One of them was followed by a thud. That thud was Ash falling onto the roof. "Damn." I muttered under my breath, hoping that Ash hadn't been hit somewhere fatal.
Two shots were fired at the windscreen, not breaking it but cracking it and making it difficult to see out of. I yanked the steering wheel sideways, swerving through some benches and smashing into building. I was flung forwards, smacking my head on the steering wheel. Some of the glass fragments from the windows had also imbedded themselves into my head. Blood dripped down the side of my face, getting in my eyes and making it even more difficult to see. "(Y/n)!" I heard Shorter call as he shook my shoulders. "I'm fine... Its just a scratch." I mutter, gently rubbing by blood-covered, throbbing head. The passenger door opened, closely followed by a bang from Shorter's pistol. "C'mon, lets get outta here." Shorter mumbled, helping me out and stopping me from falling face first into the pavement.
A car pulled up not too far away from the crash I had caused. "(Y/n)!" I turned my head to see Eiji running towards us, closely followed my by and Max. "Are you okay?" He asked, worry covering his face. "Yeah, yeah... I'm fine." I mumbled, looking over Eiji's shoulder from Ash. When my eyes landed on him, I noticed that he was clutching his shoulder that was covered in blood. A sigh of relief escaped my lips. He was wounded, but not fatally. He would be fine. "Ash! The river!" Shorter shouted over to him, pivoting and sprinting towards the river, dragging me with him.. The men followed quickly behind. "Jump!" I say to them all, throwing myself off the edge of the bank and into the water below. I heard more gun shots that made me wince before I was surrounded by cold, wet silence. My body remained underwater as I forced myself to swim. I swam towards a lower part of the bank. Max had already made it there when I arrive, so he offered me his hand to help me up. I took it and he pulled me up with easy. I thanked him and then noticed Eiji, Shorter and Ibe close behind Max, sprawled out on the floor catching their breaths. I lay on my back on the edge, breathing heavily and shaking slightly from the cold.
(Okay, I know its a slope in the anime. But I though this would be more... interesting 😏😩)
When Ash's head appeared next to me, it made me jump so much my body nearly fell back into the river. "Holy shit, don't do that to me!" I yelped as I jumped backwards. I extended an arm for Ash, which he took and I helped him up. Once he was up, I fell backwards again... accidentally pulling Ash down with me. The boy lay on top of me, breathing heavily and panting. I just lay there, not sure what to do. Yeah I could shove him off, but why would I do that? Instead I decided to put up with Shorter and Eiji's teasing later on, and just lay still. Despite him being sopping wet, Ash was warm. His normal sweat/aftershave scent had been replaced by the stench of the river, but it didn't matter too much. Ash groaned from where his face was in my neck, sending shivers down my body. When he eventually pulled away, I whined softly at the loss of heat.
"Where are we?" I mumbled, a little annoyed at Ash for getting up. "One of the inlets. They cant see us because its behind the warehouses." Ash replied as he held his shoulder, wincing slightly. He had gotten up only to sit next to me. I also sat up and rested my head on Ash's shoulder, still breathing a little irregularly. I closed my eyes and sighed. "Eiji has passed out." Ibe muttered, shaking the boys shoulders. "Wake up, Ei-chan!" He said, turning Eiji's body over. "We've got to get out of here." My eyes opened to look at Max as he stumbled to his feet. Ash too got up abruptly, annoying me a little further. "Hey, where are you going?" I called after Ash as he walked away. "Are you crazy?" Max added, annoying Ash. "Shut up. It's none of your business..." He replied, turning around to face Max. He wasn't able to say anymore as Max's fist collided with his face, knocking him out cold.
"You've caused enough trouble today, you little punk." Max grunted, bending over and slinging Ash's limp body over his shoulder.
