Song: Mama
By: My Chemical Romance
I think imma start putting songs at the start of chapters, just for a bit of fun. Feel free to listen to them if you want, although it won't affect the story. I just personally listen to music while reading/writing.
Enjoy :)
(Y/n)'s POV
"Huh? A brother?" Ash looked at me with confusion. "Why are you saying this now?"
"I don't know... I just saw a memory, that's all. Forget I ever said anything." I smiled at the boy, stepping forwards and taking his hand.
By this time, the sun had set and the moon and stars took over the sky. I didn't mind walking around in the darkness, especially when Ash was still with me. "Lay down." Ash chuckled, applying slight pressure to my shoulders and dropping to the ground beside me. I heard the happy chatting of the four others we had brought with us. A hand that wasn't mine was clasped over my mouth, willing me to be silent. To get revenge for being silenced, I stuck my tounge out and licked the palm of Ash's hand. Disgusted, he instantly pulled away and looked at me like I had gone mad. The voices soon passed, dying out as they neared the house.
"Why the hell did you do that?!" Ash groaned, wiping his hand on my shoulder. "I don't know!" I rolled onto my back in fits of laughter. "You've gone insane."
"Damn straight I have!" Ash joined me on his back, gazing at the stars. We lay like that for a while. Neither of us said a word, not that we needed to. The quite was disrupted by the sound of a car and the glare of headlights. It surprised me. Who would be driving this far out at this time? There were at least 3 other places you could rest on the way here, so why come this far? Ash had already stood up, stooping low and quietly moving through the grass. I followed him, my head in line with his legs, stepping almost silently.
We crept closer to the diner, quickly noticing that all the lights were on, despite the fact they were closed. Ash started running. I sighed at how loud his steps were, but followed anyways. We ended up with out backs flush against the outside walls of the diner, listening in on who was inside. I steadied my breath, sighing as I stood about a foot away from a window. That's where things started to go wrong. Eiji appeared on top of the hill overlooking the diner. "(Y/N)!! ASH!" He yelled, using his hands to make his voice louder. I winched, stepping back rom the window as the glass shattered outwards. Shorter was behind Eiji when I next looked up, his hand covered Eiji's mouth as he pulled the smaller boy to the ground.
"You hear us, Ash Lynx, (Y/n) (L/n). Throw your guns away and come out if you want them alive." I didn't have a gun on me, just a knife I had found in Ash and Griffin's house. "The woman goes first. You wanna see her brains busted out?" It was clear one of Golzines men was referring to Jennifer. I hadn't know the woman or long, but I sure as hell didn't want to see her body laying dead at my feet. "Stop, don't touch them." Ash demanded rom beside me. He looked from the revolver in his hand to me, stepping in front of me briefly to throw the gun into the diner. "And you, Miss (L/n)?"
"You should know I don't carry a gun." I growled, not stepping away from where I was. The man seemed satisfied with that, having been told I in fact do not use a gun. "Let them go!" Ash shouted, positioning himself back where he was before.
"You're not the one giving orders around here." I could hear the smug expression on this guys face, it made my blood boil. "Come in with your hands behind your head."
"Bastards." Ash growls through gritted teeth. "Bastards." I agreed, banging the back of my head against the diner wall. "Didn't you hear what I said?" The same guy asked. "Fine, I'll do what you said, bloody hell mate." I spat, pushing away the broken window frame and jumping in, ignoring the look Ash gave me.
"Go to hell, prick." I smiled sweetly at them, thinking about what to do next. "Aren't you glad you have such a compliant girl?" I scoff at the idiots words. "Yeah, she's far from compliant." Ash chuckled stiffly, jumping through the window and joining me with his hands behind his head. "Ahh, so you've decided to show up?" Golzines man chuckled, pushing Jennifer towards us. "Go." He demanded, making her stumble forwards. I looked her all over, checking for any injuries. Luckily, she had none. "Sorry for dragging you into this." Ash smiled at her as Jennifer walked past, a worried expression on her face.
"You're such a fool." The man who was holding the kind woman chuckled, taking a step towards us. "Thinking you could beat Papa Dino. Never mind. The order was to catch you alive."
"Aww, how sweet." I sighed, eyes widening as he produced two pairs of handcuffs. I took a step backwards, refusing to be handcuffed by another old guy. "Don't back away from me, sweethea-"
Headlights suddenly came on, blinding the guy who faced them head on. "Freeze, cops!" I smirked as I heard Max's voice behind me. I smirked even more when Ash stepped forwards and in two perfectly placed kick, knocked the gun from the guys hand and sent him flying backwards. Then there was a gunshot. It came from the second of Dino's men. "You punk!" He yelled as some one behind us fell to the floor with a thud. I spun around, rushing over to the woman's side. "Jennifer? Oi!" I yelled, holding the woman on my lap. "Jennifer!" Jim yelled, breaking free from the guy holding him. He grabbed the arm of the conscious one of Golzine's men. "Run Ash, (Y/n)!" He ordered us, just to be flipped onto the floor and shot in the shoulder.
The next thing I knew, Ash had dived towards the discarded gun and fired two shots. Directly into the guys chest, killing him. The guy that was 'unconscious' suddenly woke up and stepped behind Ash. "Dead people can't walk." I snarled, standing up and behind the guy. I brought the knife from the back of my waistband to the mans throat, slitting it. Blood poured from the fatal wound as the man gargled and choked. He fell to the floor, taking a last breath that was more of a gurgle and suffocated on his own blood.
Shorter and Eiji appeared behind me. "Don't look. You won't be able to take it." I warned Eiji, wiping the blood from my knife on the dead mans clothes. "I'm sorry... Jennifer is already dead. A bullet straight through the heart." I mumbled to my feet as Max knelt down next to her lifeless body. I continued to stare at my feet, unable to look anyone in the eye. "She was such a fine girl." Jim sniffed from where he was sat with Ash, clutching his shoulder where he had been shot. "All the good ones die first." He bowed his head.
"Are you okay, Jim?" I instantly spun around and raised my blade at the unfamiliar voice. "It's okay, (Y/n), he's a friend. Howard, come in." At the older mans words, I lowered my blade and turned back around to Jim. "I heard gunshots..." The man named Howards explained, looking around and gasping. "What happened?"
"Some burglars." Jim answered the mas questions. "I probably look really bad standing here with a bloody knife and a corpse at my feet." I chuckled nervously, dropping the weapon. "But Jennifer..." Jim continued, to which Howard looked over at Jennifer's body laying on the floor, surrounded by her own blood. "Jennifer!" He exclaimed, a mixture of emotions spreading across his face.
"Call an ambulance. And the cops." I whispered, running a hand through my hair. "Got it." Howards said, disappearing into the night to make some calls. After that, Jim took Ash's gun and rubbed it against himself. "There, now your fingerprints are gone. You too, put the knife in Jennifer's hand." I nodded slowly and did as Jim told me too. Shakily, I rubbed the handle and blade gently against Jennifer's hand to erase my fingerprints. "Now hurry and leave. I'll take it from here."
I fought back tears, turning my head away from the scene and screwing my eyes closed like a child. "You're fighting a mafia don, huh?" Jim chuckled as he tried to ignore the pain in his shoulder. "I'm impressed. Tell me just one thing. Was it one of them that killed Griffin?" He asked. "Yeah." Ash responded sadly, still holding his fathers back. "Okay, I understand. I don't know what your plans are, but you have my blessing."
Ash's POV
"I don't know what your plans are, but you have my blessing." Dad said aloud for everyone to hear before leaning in closer to me and whispering something in my ear. "Keep a hold of that one." He gestured towards (Y/n), who is looking away. "She's willing to risk her life for you, understand? Don't let her go."
"Dad..." I mumbled, looking at (Y/n) then him. "Don't waste you time here, go!" He suddenly shouted. "Let's go, Ash." Max looked extremely tense, which is understandable, as he placed a hand on my shoulder. Everyone else had gotten closer to the door. (Y/n) looked back at me. "Ash, c'mon!" She shouted, her voice wobbling as she waited for me. I stood up and ran towards her, stopping just short of the door and turning around.
"Damn you, acting like a hot shot. Don't you die on me, dumb father!" I yelled at him. "Same to you, my stupid son." With that, I grabbed (Y/n)'s hand and ran after the truck that was moving away from us.
