(Y/n)'s POV

After that, Ash often had hallucinations, varying in duration. However, he refused to acknowledge them afterwards. From what I could tell, they were almost always of him seeing his younger self but I never really knew. Like I said, he refused to acknowledge them, let alone talk about what it was he was seeing.

On top of that, he began disappearing for hours at a time, and returning at odd hours in the morning. After a few of these late night adventures, Eiji pointed out blood stained shirts being left in the wash basket. I tried to talk directly to Ash about these things, but every single time he shot me down. He claimed he had somewhere to be, or simply just walking out the door without another word. Even Shorter tried to talk to him about it, taking him out for drinks one evening, but that ended with Ash walking out the bar and returning home with bleeding knuckles and a shirt splattered with fresh blood.

Nothing we did was getting through to him. I tried everything. If I talked to him normally, he was just like he was before. Kind, respectful and annoyingly intelligent, but if I brought up the hallucinations, he shut off completely.

After careful consideration between me, Shorter and Eiji, a decision was made to bring someone else into the equation.

My brother. The one and only, Lieutenant Sergei Varishikov.

Now, I do care for my brother, that goes without saying. But he didn't particularly appreciate a phone call at, what was for him, three in the morning. Our conversation over the phone was... lets say, colourfully worded from his end. Regardless, he agreed to fly to New York from wherever he was in the world to attempt to help.

I didn't expect him to arrive on my doorstep the following day. But hey, he lives for efficiency I suppose.

"Sergei, thanks for getting here so quickly." I smiled at him, opening the door for him to enter. "You're just lucky someone cancelled their flight, and I managed to snap it up." He removed the leather satchel bag from around his shoulder, carefully drawing me into a hug. His gentle cologne was a welcome smell, so was the hug. He pulled away with a smile, stepping further into the apartment as I closed the door behind him. Something about my brother made me feel like everything was going to be okay.

After Sergei was settled into the spare room, he came back into the living room, placing himself on the sofa next to Eiji, who moved over slightly to make room. Just as everyone was getting comfortable with hot drinks, Ash returned home.

"I'm back!" His voice rang out through the complex as he came to greet me in the kitchen, placing a soft kiss to my cheek and looking over my shoulder to see what I was cooking. "Guess who else is back?" I motioned over towards my brother, who was sitting between Eiji and Shorter rather awkwardly. "Why is Blanca here?" His eyes didn't move from the avocado shrimp salad I was making specially for him, they did light up through when he noticed the shrimp waiting on the side. They were his favourite, and I knew it. However, I also knew better than to try and avoid answering his question, or than to lie to him. So I didn't.

"He's here to help me with something. He'll be gone in a couple weeks." It wasn't the full truth, but it was enough to satisfy him for now. He shrugged, stealing a shrimp from the packet, dodging tea towel I threw at him with a chuckle.
