Song: Sign of the Times
By: Harry Styles
(Y/n) POV
I made my way into the hall first, making small talk with some of the other attendents. Some of the people there, especially the men, looked at me in a way I found disgusting. Some even placed their filthy hands on my waist, but I simply ingnored the actions and slid from their grasps with a tight smile.
Not too long after I walked in, Eiji and Bones also came in. They both carried trays with champagne flutes and bottles of the bubbly liquid. I never liked champagne, but took a glass and sipped at it to fit in. Out the corner of my eye, I could see Ash surrounded by other people. He was in a wheelchair, being pushed around by some massive bloke who's long hair was slicked back. That man looked oddly familier, but I couldn't pinpoint where I had seen him before. However, he wasn't my focus at the moment. Ash was in a wheelchair and, although I was very much in his line of vision, he hadn't seen me.
I gritted my teeth angrily, knowing that Ash was probably temporarily blinded. I had to look away when the tall guy pushing Ash looked over in my direction, his eyes burning into my back as I walked away to half-heartedly socialise. Yut Lung was there, too. But that was to be expected, and he wasn't too much of a threat. This big guy though, I had a bad feeling about him.
'Any minute now...' I thought to myself as I chatted to a rather pretty lady in an emerald green dress. I quietly excused myself when her husband came over, he couldn't have had better timing. I could hear faint footsteps running towards the door. My hand rested delicatly over my thigh, just above where my revolver lay flat against my skin. Three... two... one...
Sing and his guys came bursting into the room, faces covered and guns in hand. They started open firing, somehow avoiding me, Eiji, Bones and each other in the process. I had carefully made my way over to where Dino sat with Ash and some other men I didn't know. "Don't move." I said calmly, aiming my revolved directly between Dino's eyes. I saw Ash's face change and he called out my name, sitting forwards in his wheelchair.
Dino pulled a knife off the table, then Ash close to him, pressing the knife agaisnt his throat. "Got a good shot?" Dino smirked, pressing the knife harder agaisnt Ash's throat. "Damn right I do." I smirked back, fingers hovering over the trigger. But when I went to pullit, nothing happened. There was no safety on this gun, and it was fully loaded, so what the hell was going on with it? "Shoot him! He's just bluffing!" Bones yelled at me, pressing his back up against mine. "I can't!" I replied with fustration, flipping out the cylinder and pushing it back in again. "What do you mean you can't?" Bones asked frantically, desperatly trying to protect me. "I mean I can't! I want to, but my gun is fucking malfunctioning!" I yelled, pulling the trigger one last time.
Ash elbowed Dino in the neck as my gun finally released a bullet. Instead of it going into Dino's neck, it landed in his shoulder, but oh well. Better than ot shooting him at all. "Shoot the place up!" Sing shouted from somwehere in the room, followed by bullets going everywhere. I quickly ran around to Ash, slipping my arm under his and helping him up. "It's just me, Ash. Can you walk?" I asked him gently, allowing the taller boy to lean his weight on me, not that he was heavy. In his time away, Ash had definitly lost weight. And a lot of it at that. "Yes, I can. Can't see a thing though." Ash replied, his tone of voice telling me that he was on edge. "Okay, I'm gonna get you out of here." Ash simplu nodded, letting me lead him wherever I needed.
We made out way towards where Cain was standing in a doorway, waving at us. Suddenly, Ash took the gun Bones had in his hand next to us, spinning around and shooting someone behind us. "Damn, Ash." Cain whispered as we passed him. "I heard a gun being cocked." Ash replied, drooping his arm back over my shoulders. "I sure as hell wouldn't want you as an enemy." Cain chuckled, following us out of the ball room. I intertwined my fingers with Ash's as his hand rested across my chest, rubbing his hand with my thumb.
Everyone ended us going down a manhole to escape. Ash did surprisingly well, considering he couldn't see. Sing lead us to an abandoned subway, somewhere we could rest for a while. I gently helped Ash down, laying him down on the floor of a graffitied train on top of his blazer. As soon as he fell asleep, I grabbed some clothes Sing had left for me and went into a different carraige to change. It was just simple jeans, T-shirt and hoodie as well as some trainers.
When I went back, I sat down next to Ash, my legs stretched out infront of me. I carefully lifted Ash's head into my lap and played with his hair, sighing softly as Cain and Sing watched me do so. They didn't say a word, just looked on at Ash with concern. We stayed like that for a while. All of us sat in complete silence until Ash started to stir. He jolted upright, his eyes wide. "Are you alright?" I asked, suffleing to his on my heels and reaching over to him. "Where am I?" Ash asked, turning in the direction of my touch. "In a shutdown subway station." Sing answered, standing up. "Subway?" Ash repeated, rubbing his eyes with te back of his hand.
"Don't worry, you're vision should return in the next hour or so." I reassured him, placing my hand on the Ash's back. "We can'r stay here. It's dangerous. We have to get out." Ash muttered, ignoring my words. "Take it easy. We prepared this place because it's tha safest. You rest us first." Sing smiled, hands in pockets as he watched Ash carefully. "Yeah. You should get changed and have someting to eat. Can you walk?" I said, helping Ash back to his feet. I placed a hand on his back, gently leading him out of the train. "Sing, Cain. You saved me, thanks." Ash said over his shoulder as we left, leaving them to smile as we walked away.
I took Ash around the corner, away from everyone else, and lit a fire. With me, I had a blanket, spare change of clothes for Ash and two cans of soup. "Lets get you changed first, yeah? Want me to help?" Ash nodded and undid his suspenders, taking them off. I quickly undid the buttons of his shirt, slipping on a T-Shirt over his much thinner frame. I frowned slightly, stepping back to let Ash tae off the dress trousers that hung loosely to his hips. I then helped him to some jeans, and tied the laces on his shoes. "Much better. Here." I hummed, passing Ash a thick brown blanket and watching as he sat down with it, sighing comfortably.
"Want some soup?" I questioned, starting a small fire and opening the soup tins to heat. Ash just nodded, listening intensely for anything. I sighed and waited for the soup to heat up, carefully handing it to Ash when it was ready. "It's good. Food hasn't tasted this good for so long." He said softly, taking another sip of the warm liquid. I moved closer to Ash, slipping uner his blanket and snuggleing into his side. "You save me again, (Y/n)." I shook my head, drinking some of my own soup. "You're back safe, we didn't lose any guys. That's all that matters." I smiled, even though I knew he couldn't see me. "I am worried about you though, Ash. Did you not eat anything at all?" I asked nervously, stroking his cheek gently.
"It's too dangerous to stay here." Ash said suddenly, completly ignoring my question and standing up. "Trust me Ash, we're safer down here than above ground. For now, at least. Dino will have men surrying everywhere on the surface, we'd stand no chance. Plus, you need to rest. You desperatly need to rest." I sighed, trying to get Ash to sit back down. Eventually, he gave in and did so, sliding back down the wall next to me. "Yeah, you might be right." He mumbled, letting me pull his head into my chest. "I always think about the worst case scenario. It's been like that for so long, it's a habit I an't break." He groaned, his voice muffled my the fabric of the hoodieI was wearing. "Must be because I'm a coward..."
"Aslan, stop it. You're not a coward. Please, don't speak down about youself." I hummed quietly, running my fingers through his golden hair. "No, that's why I'm still alive. Always thinking ahead. I can't calm down. That's why I always assume the worst..."
Ash burried his head deeper into my chest before falling asleep, comfortable and warm for the first time in weeks.
