Chapter 36: Body bag

(Y/n) POV

After me and Eiji left the bathroom, I wanted to explore the house. Eiji couldn't remember how to get back, so he just followed me. 

"This is cool!" I grinned, stroking the nose of a carved stone dragon. It's heavy wings were back, its head bowed and one front leg in the air. The eyes were made of fire opal, giving the dragon a very beautiful and elegant touch. "Yeah, it is. But (Y/n), shouldn't we be heading back? The others will be worried..." Eiji fretted, also admiring the work of art. "Yeah, yeah. Lets go." I gave the dragon a final pat before pivoting back down the corridor.

The area's I had been inside the house, I had memorised. Eiji struggled to keep up as I sped through the hallways, turning onto a new one every so often. Eventually, we came to the library's door. Just as I was about to tur the handle, the door sprung open and Ash walked out. He appeared bothered by something. "Ash?" I muttered as he brushed past, clearly heading somewhere. I got a quick sideways glance, that was it. 

Max was just inside the door, sighing and shaking his head. "What's up with Mr. Moody?" I chuckled to Max, referring to Ash. "I don't know." He groaned, sitting down on the sofa behind him. I also flopped down on a sofa, in a much less elegant way. "I'm going to sleep. Wake me up in and hour or so." I said, curling up into a ball and falling asleep. Leaving Max and Eiji to just look and blink at me.

Two hours later, Eiji woke me up by gently shaking my shoulders. "How long was I asleep?" I sighed, rolling my shoulders back and yawning. "Two hours." Eiji replied with a smile. "Two hours?! I though I said wake me up after one?"
"No, you said 'an hour or so'. So, I let you sleep and extra hour."
"Touché."
"Anyways, Ash said he wanted you. He's on the balcony."  I hummed in response, getting up off the sofa and walking to the room which connected to the balcony. Ibe and MAx were in there, sat down and chatting. I greeted them with a smile, walking through the room and outside where Ash was stood overlooking the valley.

"Hey." I smiled, walking up beside him and leaning on the railing. "Eiji said you wanted me?" I leant against him, only for him to flinch away from me. I frowned, looking up at Ash. "Ash... what did you want to tell me?" I ask, now nervous for the response. "That you'll be a burden. Go back to England." He replied, not even looking me in the eye. "Excuse me?" I say with shock, raising my eyebrows at him. "Look, (Y/n). I care about you, something I don't feel towards most people. I don't want to see you get hurt. You helped me, without expecting something back. I only had a gun and learned how to shoot because it was the only way to survive." He muttered, making me sigh.

"You and I live in different worl-"
"Oh SHUT THE FUCK UP!" I yelled, grabbing his collar and bringing his face down to mine. The palm of my hand came into contact with Ash's cheek, leaving a red mark. "Look, you know that's a load. I also had to learn how to shoot to survive. You think I wanted to be forced into assassination? You think I wanted to take lives to keep my own? Well?" I spat, releasing his collar and stepping backwards. "I'm sorry, but the only way I'm going back is in a body bag." 

Ash looked me in the eye and I stared right back. "Well damn." He chuckled, stepping closer to me. "Looks like even I can't change your mind on that." He hummed, cupping my cheeks and leaning in closer. "Ah ah, no. I'm supposed to be mad at you." I turned my head away, putting my hand in Ash's face. He pouted and rolled his eyes, strolling back inside and leaving me on the balcony. Before he left, he said "(Y/n), you really should leave." over his shoulder, then disappearing into the house. I leant over the balcony again with a sigh, watching the sun set. 

"(Y/n)." My head turned around to see Eiji there, gentle smile on his face. "Hmm?" I hummed, looking back at the multicoloured sky. "I guess Ash said something similar to you?"
"Ha, yeah he told me to go back to England." I chuckled, thinking over the blonde boy's words a little too deeply. Eiji joined me at the railing, resting his hands on the smooth wood. "Eiji?" I mumbled, looking straight ahead. "Do you think I'm a... burden?" I whispered, still overthinking what Ash had said. "What? No! Did Ash say that? Oh I'll kill him-"
"No its fine! It's fine. I already slapped him." I snickered half-heartedly. "Oh! So thats why Ash had a red mark on his face."
"Yup, anyways I'm going back inside. I feel like I own Ash some sort of an apology." I turn around, giving Eiji a small wave as I went back into the house.

I went down a flight of stairs and down a short corridor that lead to a kitchen. There I saw Max in a corner watching Ash, who was leant over a sink downing a glass of watered down whiskey. He Ash coughed as he swallowed every last drop, slamming the glass down on the worktop. Before he could pour himself another glass, walked over and took away the bottle. "God Ash, what are you drinking?" I frowned, sliding the whiskey bottle along the worktop. "Was it that hard?" I lift his chin slightly with my thumb. Max had sighed and left the kitchen, taking a glass and the whiskey with him.

"Hey? What's wrong?" I mumbled, cupping his cheeks and rubbing my thumb over them. Ash leant into my touch, soon resting his head on my shoulder. "I didn't mean it." He whispered into my shoulder. I ran my fingers through his hair. "I know. I'm sorry for slapping you, I probably shouldn't have done that." I giggled softly, kissing the crown of Ash's head. "Nah, I kinda deserved that." Ash replied, moving away from my shoulder and wrapping both arms around my waist, drawing me closer. "Though, I would like you to perhaps... kiss it better?" He smirked, leaning down slightly. I rolled my eyes and gently kissed Ash's red cheek. "Okay?" I groaned, resting my head on his chest. 

"Yep!" He grinned, rubbing my back and kissing the top of my head.
