(Y/n)'s POV

I closed my eyes, too tired to even attempt to fight back. A final breath slipped through my lips I the form of a sigh. As horrible as it sounds, in that moment, as I was waiting for my throat to fill with blood, I felt nothing but relief. The room was silent, only Ash's hot breath coming fast made a sound. I could feel it. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as the warm air graced my skin, a reminder that I was not yet dead. Just waiting.

Time slowed down and what was in reality seconds, felt like minutes, hours even. I leant my head back against the door, listening to the faint noises of the street below. Cars honking at each other angrily when one didn't move fast enough. The blares of sirens, police, ambulance, fire. The overall bustle of people as they made their way to wherever they were going. It was fair to say that New York had well earnt its nickname as 'the city that never sleeps'. As much as I hated this city with all its deeply rooted secrets, I was somewhat fond of it. It had brought me happiness. It had brought me freedom. What more could I have asked for?

I was in awe of Ash, in every way. As a person he was just incredible. The way he walked, talked, held his head high. The way his demeanour would change in seconds, the moment we were alone. The way this fierce, beautiful and head strong man, would simply melt if you as much as bought the ingredients to make his favourite meal.

Now this man who I trusted wholly with my life, was about to take it from me. And I couldn't care less. I could think of nothing better than to die by his hand. He was smart. He'd make it quick, painless.

I sighed one last breath.

Suddenly the pressure was removed, and a heavy thud roused me from my daydream. My eyes opened to see Sing sorely rubbing his reddened fist, Ash laying unconscious at his feet. I blinked, taking in the scene.  Sing looked just a confused and shocked as I did. His jaw was slack as he gazed at the forming bruise on Ash's left cheek.

Having heard the commotion, Eiji had woken up and come out of his room to see what that matter was. He shakily clutched a handgun, claiming "I have a loaded gun, and I'll shoot!" with a stutter. As soon as he saw what had happened, his trembling hands let go of the gun, sending it clattering to the floor. He came and fussed over me and I sank to the floor, but I couldn't hear a word. The reality of what just happened was slowly sinking in.

Ash had tried to kill me.
He tried to kill me.
He almost succeed.

And then the questions, and worries, and doubts came flooding into my head.

Why would he do that?
Did he ever even care about me?
Did I do something?

Eiji's gentle hands pressed something soft to my neck. He was muttering something in Japanese under his breath. I groaned, leaning into the bandage and resting my head on his shoulder. Somewhere along the way, my brother had entered the room. He carefully moved Eiji, saying something I couldn't understand to him, before tending to me.

A steady stream of thick red blood still trickled down my neck, dripping onto my shirt, and now through the white bandage Eiji had applied. Sergei removed the badly placed bandage, getting a fresh one ready.

The entire time he was looking after me, all I could think about was Ash. I stared at his motionless body, and a wave of emotion came over me. I couldn't say what the emotion was, sadness perhaps. My mind felt fuzzy and confused. My body shivered as though someone had dumped a bucked of ice water over it.

I closed my eyes, leaning back with a sharp outward breath.
