(Y/n)'s POV
Max lead us to his hideout, Ash's unconscious body slung over his shoulder. It was a warehouse. The insides were clean, considering everything. "(Y/n), come here so I can stitch up your head." Max beckoned me over to sit before him, a needle and thread in hand. "No. Not until I've sorted out Ash's shoulder." I shook my head, grabbing a few bandages out of a small first aid box. I then shuffled over to Ash. He was laying on his back, his shoulder still red from blood but bleeding slightly less. "Max, do you have any antiseptic wipes?" The man nodded and tossed me a box of wipes. I thanked him before turning back to Ash. His chest rose steadily as I peeled the wet, blood soaked hoodie from his body. The bullet had gone straight through his shoulder, which made my life a little easier, and was quite small. The wound wasn't too serious, unless it got infected. I opened a wipe and removed all the blood from around the bullet hole.
Shorter, Eiji, Ibe and Max watched curiously as I worked. They were probably wondering why I was so protective and determined about helping Ash before myself, not that I cared. My fingers quickly and carefully wrapped the clean white bandage around Ash's shoulder, securing it tightly. Only when I was finally satisfied, would I allow Max to stitch the gash in my head. My own blood had almost stopped slipping from the wound, most of it was dried. Small amounts of thick red liquid still spilled from under the scabs.
"Okay. Now you can stitch me up." I shuffled back over to Max, who gladly started working on cleaning the matted hair from the area around my wound. It didn't hurt that much. The needle Max used was was so sharp I barely felt it as the metal slipped through my skin and the thread pulled it together. Halfway through, Ash woke up with a groan. I looked at him without turning my head too much. "Welcome back." I smiled at him. Ash grunted in reply, his hand resting on his shoulder as he glanced around. "This place..."
"It's my hideout." Max answered the question Ash was going to ask. He then turned his attention back to my head. "This is going to sting." He mumbled, followed by a sharper intake of breath from me. "I want to leave today, as planned." Max sighed, pulling the last of the tread through and tying it.
"Leave?"
"To Cape Cod. Where you and Griff grew up." Max patted my shoulder, telling me I could move now. "Why?" Ash asked, looking back from where he had wandered too. "For the pictures and letters Griff left. Nobody else knows this 'Banana Fish.' " Ash sighed before walking up a flight of stairs. He walked past where Eiji was sleeping, and Ibe was watching over him. When he saw Eiji, he stopped a little and looked at him. It was as if he was looking to see if he was okay. "We're leaving as soon as the sun sets, get some rest." Max called after him. I stood up from the floor and stretched. "He might do something crazy." Ibe sighed worriedly as Ash walked outside. "Don't worry. He wants to know what Banana Fish is too much." Max replied, continuing to clean some dishes. I, on the other hand, was quite worried about Ash. "I'm going to go check on Ash." I muttered, following the young man out of the building. Shorter said something behind me, but I didn't hear what he said.
I went outside to see Ash sat on the edge of the building, gazing out among the other warehouses at the setting sun. Rays of red, orange and yellow bathed the rooftop. It was beautiful. I carefully made my way towards Ash, stepping slowly and silently. When I was close enough, I saw how his body jerked suddenly every few seconds and heard his sniffing. I silently sat down next to him and lent on his shoulder, quietly making my presence know. It seemed like it was just what Ash needed. He wrapped his arms around my body, pulling me closer to him. He nuzzled his face into the crook of my neck, squeezing every inch of my body his arms could hold. I simply lent into him, rocking from side to side in an attempt to comfort him... admittedly something I'm not going to win any awards for. Ash's breathing slowly went back to normal, but he stayed with his face in my neck. Simply breathing and getting himself back under control.
I stayed where I was until Ash pulled away. When he finally did, he refused to look in my eyes. Instead he gazed off at the setting sun, still holding my body. "Hey." I cooed softly, bringing my hand up to his cheek and rubbing it with my thumb. "Ash... look at me? Please?" I saw the hesitance in his face but eventually he did look at me with his blood-shot eyes. I smiled up at him, leaning my head forwards in an attempt to nestle into his neck. However before I could get there, Ash's own hand caught my head, tilting it sideways. I didn't fight back but simply gazed into gazed into his eyes and smiled softly at him. I felt a rough thumb run over my bottom lip and down my chin. The movement left my lips slightly parted as I continued to gaze at Ash. His head moved closer to mine before he pulled away a little before coming back in. He seemed nervous. "Uh... can I?" He mumbled, running his finger over my bottom lip again. I knew exactly what he was getting at and nodded with a slight blush crossing my cheeks. "Are you sure? I don't want to scare you-" I cut him off. "Hey. You can kiss me if you want." That seemed to be all the reassurance he needed.
Ash lent into me, tilting my head upwards at the same time. Once I felt the contact on my lips, I closed my eyes. It was soft and sweet. There were no ulterior motives behind the kiss, just a simple yet meaningful moment that the both of us understood. We both pulled away at the same time. My hand instantly raised to my mouth, covering my lips and a blush spreading fast across my face. I had never kissed someone because I wanted to, the same with Ash, so it was special. I heard Ash chuckle and pull me into his chest.
"Thank you." Me muttered into my hair.
