Chapter 55: Late Night Chats

(Y/n) POV

We had a couple round of charades, each round getting crazier and crazier as people had more and more to drink. Almost all the food had be demolished, just crumbs left behind. Eventually, it was just me, Ash an Eiji left awake. I lay on my back on one of the sofas, head placed in Ash's lap as he messed with my hair. Eiji sat on a different sofa, just chatting casually with Ash as I slowly drifted in and out of sleep.

"Hey, do you have a girlfriend?" Ash asked Eiji, leaning back into the cushion behind him. "Why do you ask, out of now where?" Eiji replied slightly shocked, taking a sip from his drink. "Why not? You have one at home, right?"
"Of course I don't." Eiji said shyly. I heard him move, presumably bringing his feet up to his chest. "I bet the girls like you though." Ash hummed. "Thought so." Eiji chuckled. 

"Everyone wants to be a boss's girl." I could hear Ash's smirk, even though my eyes were closed and I couldn't see it. I lifted a hand and lightly punched him in the chest, showing that I was awake. "Not that I give a damn about them." He chuckled, catching my hand and bringing my knuckles to his lips. "But there was a girl I really liked when I was 14." Ash said a little sadly, rubbing the back of my hand with his thumb subconsciously.  "Really? How far did you get with her?" Eiji asked somewhat excitedly.  "Nowhere. She died." Ash replied, his face falling as he stared directly ahead. "She was killed. Someone thought she was my girlfriend. I couldn't save her." He continued, his expression showing the pain of remembering it. I squeezed his hand gently, causing Ash to look down at me. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you. (Y/n). Or you Eiji." A tiny smile tugged at the corners of Ash's lips as he looked at me, then to Eiji, who smiled sadly back at him. "Feeling sorry for me again?" Ash raised an eyebrow at Eiji, who looked surprised, but nodded. "This world won't let me mingle with normal people anymore."
The whole time he spoke, Ash's eyes were down at me and he was frowning. "If my being here is a burden to you..." I started, breaking eye contact with him, glancing at Eiji's feet instead.

"No, that's not it." Ash cut me off defensively, bringing my head back to face him with his thumb and index finger. "I-I'm going to go to bed... goodnight." Eiji said suddenly, getting up from his seat and walking hurriedly towards his bedroom. "Night!" I called after him, but he was already gone. "Forget what I said, I don't want to fight." Ash sighed. "For tonight, no more gangs and warfare."
"Agreed." I smiled, turning over so my body faced Ash, snuggling my face into his leg. A hand fell on my shoulder, gently rubbing my upper arm in a soothing manner. "Night, Ash." I hummed, gradually slipping into sleep. The last thing I heard was Ash say, "Goodnight, (Y/n)." before I completely drifted off.

Ash's POV

Soon after (Y/n) fell asleep in my lap, I removed the grey shirt I was wearing so that I sat in a black tank top. It was more comfortable to sleep in a tank top that a T-Shirt. Although, before I could settle down to sleep, my phone started to vibrate. I picked it up, answering the call as quietly as I could. "It's me." I said in a low whisper, listening intently to the person who called me at such a late hour. "Okay." I sighed when they finished, ending the call. (Y/n) was still sleeping peacefully in my lap, and I would happily stay here with her, but I couldn't. Gently lifting the girls head from my lap, I slipped off the sofa and placed a pillow where my lap was, lowering her head into that. I pulled a throw rug from the arm of the sofa over (Y/n), kissing her temple gently before going to the front door, picking up my favourite denim jacket as I did. After that, I slipped out the door and jogged down the stairs to the lobby of the apartment complex. 

Before I walked through the large glass doors, I pulled the sunglasses Shorter used to wear from my pocket and put them on, and went on my way.

Did anyone else notice that Ash wears Shorters sunglasses?
I know this chapter is kinda short, sorry...
