Song: Nights Like These
By: Pigeon Pit
(Love this song ^^😩)
(Y/n)'s POV
"Um... thanks for saving them." Sing called down to Ash, relief in his voice. "How are they doing?" Ash asked back, turning to look at Sing. "They're tough. They'll pull through." Sing reassured him, remaining at the top of the stairs. Ash looked down, thinking about something. "Don't tell them about Shorter." He muttered loud enough for Sing to hear. I gripped Ash's hand a little tighter at the mention of Shorter, seeking some assurance, which he gladly gave but squeezing my hand back. "Yeah." Sing sighed, playing nervously with his thumbs. "Can I ask you something?" Ash tilted his head, allowing Sing to continue.
"Was Shorter wasted like Hua Lung is?" I instantly turned away from Sing, memories of Shorters terrified face flashing in my mind. "Worse. Much, much worse." I whispered quietly so only Ash heard. Yes, Shorter was still mostly aware of what he was doing. But he didn't know why, all he knew is that he was scared, and thought I was the cause of that. The look of pure terror haunts me. Especially when he was on top of me, knife in hand hovering dangerously in the air, blade pointed towards my heart. Its the stuff nightmares are made of.
Ash also turned away from Sing, hoping to end this conversation soon. "I killed him before that." He said finally, leading me out the building and away from Sing before he could ask anymore questions about the touchy subject. "Sorry about that." Ash muttered, glancing briefly down at me. I just nodded, looping my arm through his as we walked towards the appartment.
It didn't take us long to get there, and the door was stilled locked. Ash produced a key, letting us into the appartment. Nothing had changed, everything was the same as how we left it. Ash wandered over to a laptop, opening it up and playing around with it. I didn't know what he was doing, nor did it particularly matter that much to me. I walked around the place aimlessly, just checking everything was in fact the same. I entered mine and Ash's room, skipping over to the bed and pulling an abandoned hoodie from it. The hoodie was just a simple, plain dark gray colour and it was no doubt one of Ash's. I slipped it on, burrying my hands in the pockets and nuzzling my face into the front. I stayed in the room for a bit before remembering I had come here with Ash, and he was probably wondering what I was up to. So, I made my way back to where Ash was. But now, it wasn't just Ash. Max was there too, stood in the kitchen making coffee.
"Are (Y/n) and Eiji okay?" I heard him ask Ash as I walked in, sitting infront of his turned back on a bar stool. "Yes, they're fine." I answered his question, making the large man jump with surprise. "(Y/n)! I'm sorry, I didn't notice you come in." Max appologised, his hand wiping down his face. I chuckled and waved him off, accetping the coffee he handed me. I downed it, finishing the bittersweet liquid quickly. A sigh of relief escaped my lips, feeling the caffeine start to work and the hours of lost sleep gently slip away.
Ash's POV
Me and Max talked for a while, (Y/n) occasionally chipping in an idea or thought. Turns out Max had rented the room next door. More like, his job at New's Week rented it for him, I thought he had been fired. Apparerntly not.
"Ash, I don't want you to feel like you have to, but I could use your help." Max muttered, looking down into his coffee mug as he spoke. I hummed, looking up at him with a questioning expression. "Sure, what is it?" I asked, placing my mug down on the counter. "You'll see. Might want to change into something more... casual though?" Max sighed, his body slightly tense as he washed up all three coffee mugs. "Okay. I think I've still got some clothes here. Give me a minute." I got up from the stood, walking to mine and (Y/n)'s bedroom, (Y/n) following close behind. "You don't have to follow me everywhere, y'know?" I chuckled, closeing the door behind us. "I know, but I wanna avoid an awkward conversation with Max." She mumbled quietly, making her way over to the bed and sitting down while I rummaged through draws.
When I was changed into something more comfortable, we left the room and Max lead us out the apartment complex and to a small cafe opposite a gay bay named 'New World'. The blue and purple neon lights lit up the area around the bar, illuminating the street and the few people that stood in it. We had a clear view of the enterance from where we sat, sipping various drinks. "The owner is Frank Sanchez, but everyone calls him Frog." I started, swirling the liquid in my glass around. "The penthouse right above it is his hideout." All three of the other people around the table listened closely as I spoke, taking in the infomation. "He's doing well for himself." Some guy Max knew called Robert sighed, gazing out the window at the bar. "He was in charge of rounding up kids. The men who came to buy boys at Dino's Club Cod, they were all high government officials and socialites. Everybody that came secretly had pictures taken of them." I explained to them. (Y/n) scoffed next to me, showing her dislike for the place already.
"But I don't take Dino as someone who would blackmail his customers." She looked over at me, resting her head in the palm of her hand. "No, Dino never blackmailed his customers. It was simply just insurance." (Y/n)'s head dropped to rest her chin on the table, one finger idly tapping the rim of her glass. I gently slipped my hand into hers, stopping her from tapping before I continued. "However, Frog never had any pictures of him taken."
"He made himself a side business, huh." Max hummed, leaning forwards in his chair. "Yeah, that's most likely. But we have to get to him, which means going into the bar." I looked up at the two men infront of me. Max looked straight back with a blank expression, where as Robert seemed to know what I was getting at. (Y/n) next to me chuckled at the confused man's expression, sitting up straight.
"This, could be interesting."
