Chapter 38: Yau-Si

(Y/n) POV

I was soon woken by a sharp prick in my neck, closely followed by my mind fogging with black. 'Oh...'

Ash POV

I walked outside Jessica's house, Michael in my arms. The young boy was still trembling. "They just came crashing in." He whispered, swinging gently on a rope swing. "Mommy tried to hide me in the kitchen, and then they got mad... and then..." Before he could finish, tears streamed down his face. I sighed, pulling him into a hug. "I'm sorry for making you remember that." I muttered into Michael's hair as he cried into my shoulder. "Did your mom call the cops?"
"George did. He was the on the phone with Mommy." The boy sniffed, pulling away and hopping off the swing.

"So that's why they ran." I though aloud, holding the boys hand. "Were they white or black?" I asked. "They weren't either." I gasped slightly, suddenly realising the trick we had fallen for.

I quickly ruffled Michael's hair, rushing to find Max. When I did, I dragged him into the car we had come in. He followed, but not without question.

"Ash, why are we hurrying back?" He asked as I floored the gas. "Chinatown sold us out. I knew Yau-Si was a spy!" I yelled, gripping the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turned white. "Yeah, but Shorter's with them. I'm sure he'll find a way to stop them." Max attempted to console me, but I just kept on speeding.

When we got there, I leapt out of the car not bothering to turn off the engine or lights. The door swung open when I pushed it, further panicking me. "(Y/n)?! Eiji! Ibe!!" I called, running inside. The only people there was Ibe and Eiji, one face first on the floor and the other slumped in a chair. "Sunichi! Eiji! Are you okay?" Max said, bursting in after me. The man seemed to be in some sort of pain, meanwhile Eiji was silent. "What happened? Where are (Y/n), Eiji and Shorter?" Max questioned Ibe as I went over to Eiji to check on him. 

Luckily, he was breathing and just unconscious.  "Damn it!" I yelled, jumping away from Eiji. "Where are you going?" Max asked with a worried look on his face. "Chinatown! Where else would they be?" I seethed, running towards the door. "Wait! Sunichi's trying to talk." Max called after me, making me stop in my tracks and turn around. "Not.... there..." Ibe whispered hoarsely, looking at me with concern. 

Max picked Ibe up, placing him on the sofa. The man clutched his chest with pain, clawing at the shirt just above his heart. "Take it easy, Sunichi." Max soothed as Ibe tried desperately to spit out a few words. "New York..." Ibe mumbled. "To Chinatown.... to get (Y/n) back..." He wheezed, simple words raking a lot out of him. "Then it really was Shorter." Max sighed, looking up at me. "Yau-Si is behind it." I replied quickly, knowing something was up with that guy. "I can't believe it. Shorter betrayed us?"
"He's Chinese too. He must've suffered." I muttered, bowing my head in defeat. "I should've been more careful. He has a sister in New York." 
"So that's how it is. So we have two enemies now."

"Wang-Lung will pay for this!" I yelled, quickly drawing my revolver and spinning around. "Who's there?" I demanded, aiming at the stairs. "I know you're there. Come out." No response. "I'm in a really bad mood right now. Come out, or I'll kill you!" I threatened. When footsteps started coming down the stairs, I didn't relax. "Wait, don't shoot." A old man pleaded, walking down the stairs and coming out with his hands raised. I relaxed slightly, seeing that the old man was unarmed. "Who are you?" I asked calmly, still pointing a gun at his chest. "You tell me. Breaking into my house like this." The old man replied, still holding his hands up. "So you're..."

"I'm Alexis Dawson."
