(Y/n) POV

After I saw Ash disapear into another room, I wanted to go check on him, but Eiji wouldn't let me. He forced me to sit down next to him and watch TV until my arm was fully wrapped. But by the time he had finished, Ash had come back out of the room, a sour expression on his face. His breathing was slightly heavier than usual, and his hands curled into fists inside his jeans pockets.

I got up a followed Ash quietly into a spare bedroom, Eiji watching me go. Ash was stood at the far end of the room by a large window, watching as the raindrops ran down the glass. His head snapped back to look at me as I entered, shutting the door softly behind myself. His gaze didn't stay with me for long, staring down at the city streets below. "Ash?" I called out gently, walking closer to stand by his side. He looked really depressed, something was deeply bothering him, and I wanted to know what it was.

"What's wrong?" I asked, brushing my fingers down his upper arm. When he flinched away from my touch, I frowned and retracted my arm. Ash closed his eyes, keeping his head lowered and still not responding to me. "Aslan, please. Tell me what's wrong." I pleaded, walking in front of him and lifting his head up with my thumb. "You should rest. Gunshot wounds can cause fevers." He said painfully slowly. "I know. I'm fine. What's wrong with you? Please! Just tell me, I want to help." When he didn't respond again, I stepped away from Ash and walked out the room. "Fine. Don't tell me now." I muttered as I closed the door behind me.

I said goodnight to Eiji, Bones and Kong before heading to bed. I changed into something comfortable, then slipped under the warm bedsheets. The bedside lamp was still turned on, so I decided to read for a bit. Not long after I had started, Ash came suffleing into the room, an appologetic look on his face. He walked over to the bed I was in, hand lifting to touch my forehead gently. "Got a fever?" He mumbled as he did so, thumb softly carressing my cheek as he removed his hand. "Guess not." Ash sighed, sticking his hands in his pockets and walking to the other side of the room. He opened the curtains and gazed out. "You should rest." He repeated, glancing back at me over his shoulder.

I simply ignored him, standing up out of the bed and wandering over to where he stood. "There's trouble again, isn't there?" I asked, leaning against Ash. He sighed again, wrapping and arm around my waist and rubbing small circles on my hip. "It's nothing I hadn't expected." He replied with a soft smile, reaching across my body to pick up a can of beer from a small wooden table. He opened it with one hand, then took a sip. "Go to sleep, (Y/n)."
"I'm not tired." I groaned back, resting my head gently on his chest. "Come talk with me for a bit?" Ash exhaled, his face softening a little. "Sure. Go sit down, I'll be over in a second."

I nodded and made my way over to the bed, snuggleing under the covers comfortably. True to his word, Ash soon joined me, joining me under the duvet and pulling my head onto his chest. I smiled, melting into the affection while I mindlessly traced the scars left from many fights on his arms. Ash started to tell stories about the stupid things he and Shorter used to do, playing with my hair as he did. "There was this one time me and Shorter were being idiots on the outskirts of town. We had motorbikes with us, and were racing each other at night. Well, Shorter suddenly swerved into a ditch to avoid a rabbit. He ended up braking his collar bone, and I had to call the ambulance to come pick him up." He laughed sadly, fondly remembering the memory of his best friend. "Me and him also dyed his hair together- (Y/n), are you listening?" The answer to his question was no. I had fallen asleep in his lap, while listening to him talk. Ash sighed with a smile, slowly sinking down and holding me close.

Ash's POV

"I'm not gonna let anyone hurt you now, (Y/n). And I will never forgive whomever hurt you. You're safe now." I mumbled into (Y/n)'s hair as she slept on my chest, one hand gently holding my upper arm. I allowed myself to fall asleep with her again, wanting the moment to last forever, even though I knew that wasn't possible.

When I woke up, (Y/n) was still resting on my chest, but her whole body was shaking. At first I though she'd had another nightmare, but upon closer inspection it wasn't that. Her face was flushed with red and sweat droplets rolled lasily over her skin. I sighed and moved the blankets off her, shifting myself and accidentally wake her up in the process. (Y/n) sleepily reached out to grab one of the blankets I had just moved away, but before she could get one, I took her wrist gently and moved it back to where it was before. "Ash? I'm cold." She groaned, not yet aware of the sweat that covered her skin. "No, (Y/n), you're actually abnormally hot." I replied, getting up out of the bed to find a thermometer.

When I got back, (Y/n) was sat up against the headboard. Her body was shivering as sweat rolled down her face. I took her temperature, it read 102.2F , or 39C.  She groaned softly, sinking back down against the pillows. "This is pathetic." She whined, closeing her eyes. "You didn't get a temperature, did you?" She asked, reaching up her hand to touch my forehead. I smiled softly and leant down so she could reach. When her hand pulled away, I heard a happy sigh come from her lips. "No, you're okay. That's good." She smiled as best she could, but frowned when I walked away and slipped my jacket on. "Eiji?" I called into the rest of the appartment, closely followed by footsteps and a questioning Eiji. "Can you look after (Y/n) for me? She's got a fever and I've gotta go meet Max." I said to him while stood in the bedroom doorway, not expecting (Y/n) to be paying much attention to what I was saying. I was wrong about that.

Eiji quickly agreed to look after (Y/n) while I was gone, letting me leave without having to worry about her.

Eiji's POV

I heard the front door click shut before making my way over to (Y/n). I sat down on the bed next to her, gently pressing my hand against her forehead. She groaned and leaned into my hand. "He's lying, Eiji. I know Ash isn't going to meet Max. He goes awfully calm when he's lying, he's hiding something but I don't know what." I watched as her shoulders dropped in defeat, sinking into the bed and turning away from me. "Is there anything I can get you?" I asked her gently, resting a hand on her shoulder. "No, not really." She obviously lied, making me sigh. "Okay, I'll leave you be then." I smiled, getting up to leave only to have a hand snake around my wrist and pull me back.

"No, wait! Stay with me, Eiji? Please?" (Y/n) looked up at me with a worried expression, holding my wrist firmly until I sat back down. She felt vunerable in her sick state, wanting... no, needing the company of another person. "Okay, I'll stay with you." I smiled warmly at her, taking her hand and gently rubbing her thumb. She sighed slightly more happily, relaxing down into the covers once more. Before long, she had fallen asleep.

And I stayed with her until she woke up, or until Ash returned.
