Song: Wires
By: The Neighbourhood
(Y/n)'s POV
It was one of those nights.
About 1am on a sunday when all the streets are quite, the sky covered with thick rain clouds. The air was warm and humid. Drizzling rain quickly got heavier, and low rumbles of thunder could be heard across New York. I lay still under the warm covers in a dimly lit room, an arm wrapped securely around my waist and a face nuzzled into the back of my neck. I simply watched the thunderstorm that happened outside, listening to the rain and the thunder.
The person behind be slowly began to stir, their grip tightening momentarily before loosening off again. That was when the first flash of lighting struck, followed by a huge crash of thunder. The storm was getting bigger, and lightning more frequent. A warm, calloused hand rubbed my side gently before wrapping itself across my stomach. I snuggled back into the warmth, thoroughly enjoying the company.
"You're alright with storms, yeah?" Ash asked against the skin of my neck, bringing his head so he could see the lightning through the thin curtains. I hummed in response, placing my forehead against his cheek with a smile. He turned and kissed my forehead, holding on a few seconds.
"Ew, stop that. No need to rub you're relationship in a single dudes face!" A purpled-haired idiot groaned, standing up from his own bed to open the curtains. "Oh, cool! A thunderstorm!" Shorter chuckled to himself, sitting on the windowstill to look out. "Shorter, get away from the window. Manhattan doesn't want to see you topless." Ash sighed, slinking back to lay his head on a pillow. "Ash! Look, there's no one crazy anough to go out in this! and, are you sure? I think I look pretty hot." Shorter grinned, turning around and flexing his muscles playfully. "Don't you think, (Y/n)? I am pretty good looking, right?!"
I rolled my eyes with a giggle. "I've seen worse, take that as you will Shorter."
"Oh... uh... thank you?" I felt Ash's body shift as he tried not to laugh. I elbowed him gently, which just had him laugh even more. "Why don't- Why don't you go and flex your muscles for Eiji instead of (Y/n)?" He couldn't help himself now, Ash was cackling as Shorter turned away, no doubt with flushed cheeks. "Wha- why would you say that?!" He whined, face in his hands. "Well, you like him don't you?"
"I'm not gay, Ash."
"What, something wrong with being gay?"
"No! No, of course not! That's not what I meant!"
"Well, what do you mean?"
Shorter ran a hand through his messy, now flopped down, mohawk. "Oh my god... whatever. I like men and women. Happy now? But why are we discussing my sexuality at... 2am?"
"Eh, I'm not sure... but I'm with you on that Shorter. Eiji is sweet, and I think he likes you~" Ash teased, causing Shorter to wander back to his bed and fall into it. "I'm gonna go back to sleep. Goodnight (Y/n), Ash." He muttered, his voice muffled my a pillow.
I replied with a goodnight, turning to face Ash. "I knew it! I told you!" I whispered, lightly punching his shoulder. He just chuckled, pulling me into him. "I know, but let's go back to sleep, yeah?" I hummed in agreement, resting my forehead against Ash's chest with a soft sigh. I was close enough to hear his heartbeat and feel his breath. It was comforting.
By now, the storm had mostly blown over, just some thunder in the distance and rain. Ash and Shorter had both gone back to sleep, and I soon followed.

"(Y/n)!"
"Sing?"
I opened my eyes to see a very relieved looking Sing stood infront of me. "(Y/n), I heard that Ash was in hospital after being stabbed by Lao... Ser- Blanca called up and told me everything. I came here as fast as I could." He sighed heavily, sitting down on the floor next to my wheelchair. "Okay, that's great uh... do you know how long I was out for?"
"Hm... only an hour or two. Ash is in ICU at the moment, he lost a lot of blood.... but the nurse said that a two hours ago, so maybe there's been some inprovement." I nodded, thanking Sing as he stood back up and started shifting nervously.
"Uh... (Y/n)?" He asked, looking at his feet. "Yeah?"
"Can I ask what you were dreaming about? You muttered something about Ash, Eiji and.... and Shorter."
"Oh... it was nothing. Just a fond memory." I smiled sadly at him, and he got the hinto not to push it any further. "I miss him." Sing said out of nowhere, a frown taking over his face. I paused for a moment before answering. "I know, so do I." I muttered, holding my arms out to him. He looked at me for a second before coming closer and gently wrapping his arms around me in a hug. I hugged him back, rubbing his back slowly as he cried softly into my shoulder. "I know..." I mumbled, feeling my own eyes begin to prick with tears.
We stayed like that for a good couple minutes, Sing continuing to cry quietly into my shoulder. "(Y/n), Sing, I'm back." Sing pulled away abruptly when he heard my brothers voice, quickly wiping his reddened cheeks. Sergei looked at him sympathetically and handed him a coffee, then turned to me and gave me one. "Don't worry Sing, I made sure to add extra sugar for you." My brother smiled, and Sing just nodded. I thanked Sergei, blowing on the hot drink before taking a sip.
"Have you heard anything about Ash?" I asked tentatively, not looking up from the deep brown liquid in my hands. "Not yet, we've got to be patient." Sergei replied sadly with a frown, looking down at me. Sing sat himself back down next to me with a huff, hating the fact that Blanca had caught him crying. I placed a hand on his head, trwirling a strand of hair before putting my hands back on my drink.
The three of us sat in silence for what seemed like hours before a young nurse came running down the hallway. Sing immediatly stood up, his hand gripping the armrest of my wheelchair in a protective manner.
"Miss (Y/n) (L/N)?" She asked, looking taken aback slightly by Sing's glare. "Yes, thats me." I looked at her with nervous expression, not quite knowing what to expect but hoping for the best. "You are... Mr. Aslan Callenreese's fiancée, yes?" The nurses gaze landed directly on me, and so did a very confused looking Sing's. "Oh.. uh.. yes, thats me."
"If you'd like to come with me..." Sergei took his place behind the wheelchair to push, and Sing walked beside me. "If you don't mind me asking, who are these gentlemen? I'm not permitted to allow anyone but family into the room."
"They are family, don't worry about that." I replied, but the nurse looked sceptical. Either way, she didn't say anything.
After about a minute, we stopped outside a room with Ash's initals next to the door. "Before we go in, I'd just like to let you know that he isn't conscious. However, his condition is stable. We expect him to wake up in a few days, but it may take longer. It really depends on how long it takes for his body to recover." The nurse nodded at us before opening the door.
Sure enough, Ash's body lay still in the center of the room. Various drips and moniters were hooked up to him, measuring his heart rate, blood pressure and such. Sergei stayed outside, while me and Sing went in. Once Sing had pushed me beside Ash's head, he came to my side and held onto the armrest again. He couldn't bare to look at Ash's sleeping form.
I picked up Ash's hand, placing a gentle kiss to it and relishing in the fact it was warm. I held it to my cheek, muttering whatever my mind thought was worth saying.
All I wanted was for him to respond. I didn't care how, a squeeze of the hand or a glimpse of his eye. Anything. But no response came, and the room fell silent.
