Song: Mr. Brightside
By: The Killers
(Y/n)'s POV
"So you worked this out before and didn't tell me?" Ash muttered, looking up at me while he cradled his mug of warm water. "No. I figured it out as you did. It's also a common practce when you are going up against a large group like a gang." I replied, taking a sip of my drink. Ash closed the laptop with a sigh, leaning his head on mine. "We're going up against some dangerous people, (Y/n). Promise me you'll be okay?" He lifted me off the floor gently, steeing me down between his legs, his chest flush against my back. I turned my head to look at him, frowning at his words. "You know I can't promise that. But I'll try." I cupped his face in my hands, gently kissing hm breifly before smiling sadly. He knew I couldn't be sure what was going to happen. He knew that. Ash just wanted me to be safe. I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped me from participating at all.
I leant back into Ash, resting my head on his shoulder as his arms wrapped themselves around my waist, pulling me closer. "I'll protect you, (Y/n). He won't get to you, okay? I promise I won't let him touch you." Ash kissed my cheek, burring his face in my neck. I knew who he was refering to, and it made me shudder. But I knew Ash wouldn't lie about things like this. He'd keep his promise, I was sure about it.
"Ash was right. They're gathering around the north square." Alex confirmed, removing the binoculars from his eyes and looking at us all. The majority of Ash's gang were still asleep, while me, Ash, Alex, Sing and Cain were stood on the rooftop looking out over the surrounding area. I paced nervously behind Ash as he took the binos from Alex, looking at the gathered soldiers for himself. "One team every 500 meters. They're moving in a V shape. The main force must be fanned out behind them." When he turned around, I was still pacing. "This is insane, Ash. We're going up against trained mercenaries. And not just one, a whole group of them. This is insane. It's fucking insane."
Ash gave the binoculars back to Alex before walking over to me. He stepped infront of me, and when I walked into him, he just wrapped his arms around me. "This is mad." I shook, slowly embracing Ash back. "(Y/n), we're surrounded. There's no other choice. We'll be fine, yeah?"
"I don't care about what happen's to me! If you get hurt, or if anything happens to anyone..." pulled away from Ash, taking a deep breath. "Whatever. Let's just get this over with. And I swear, if you get yourself hurt, I'll beat your arse."
"Yes ma'am. And it's ass, not arse."
"Now is not the fucking time, Aslan Jade Callenreese." I muttered lowly, stepping closer to Ash so only he could hear me. "Right! Let's go tell everyone else." He chuckled nervously, clapping his hands and walking briskly back inside.
I chuckled as I watched him walk away, soon following after. By the time I got inside, Ash had already gathered everyone around a table and was explaining the plan to them. When you are stood next to three gangs, you realise just how big they are collectively. I felt tiny in comparison. Not to mention a lot of them were fully grown men reaching up to 6'5. Luckily, Kong was stood nearby to me. He made way to Ash, letting me walk towards the front so I could see what was going on.
On the table, there was a map. I stood next to Ash, my hand reaching up to gently play with the soft locks of hair on the back of his head. He look at me sideways, but continued explaining his plan. "The 3rd and 4th ward groups, you escape through the sewer system." Ash pointed out the entrence to the sewers on the map, looking up to make sure everyone understood before continuing. "We'll stay behind fight, draw them back, and escape from North 3nd ward. If we can lead them downtown, we can win. We'll meet up in 48 hours at the storehouse on Pier 6. Got it?" There was a collective 'Yeah' from the gang members before the started to move, getting themselves ready for whatever was to come.
It only took a few minutes for everyone to clear out the room, leaving me Ash and Cain. "I'll need a gun." I stated, giving Ash's hair a final ruffle before removing my hand. "You shouldn't do." Ash responded, turning around and leaning against the table. "Oh?" I caught Ash's eye, tilting my head slightly."You're not going to fight, (Y/n). You're going with Eiji, Sing and Jessica to the sewers. Although, Jessica doesn't know that yet." Ash chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his neck. "That's not happening. I'm staying here."
"No, (Y/n), you're going."
"Why? Ash, I am more than capable of fighting. Hell, I've been doing it my whole life!" I exclaimed, my eyes shifting from Ash to Cain then back to Ash wth shock. "(Y/n). You're not staying here and fighting. End of." Ash said firmly, his voice more serious than I had ever heard it. It was almost like he was scolding me. I stepped back from him, trying to process what was going on. "Ash, I'm staying." I replied, just as firmly, maintaining eye contact.
