Narrator pov. On the boat to the island~

"Taku. Why does a detective like me have to go to an island like this, especially when the weather's so nice? Just because of some stupid letter we got a week ago." Kogoro complained while smoking a cigarette.

Flashback time~ When the letter arrived~

"*Reading* On the night of the next full moon, the shadows will again begin to disappear on Tsukikage Island. Aso Keiji, requesting investigation" after Kogoro read the letter, the agency's phone rang and he answered it.

"Hai, Mouri Detective Agency," he said and all that came from the other end was, "There are 2 days left until the full moon. I've already paid your 500,000 yen fee. Make sure you come." and Kogoro replied with "Wait, who the hell is-" the caller interrupted him with "This is Aso Keiji, from Tsukikage Island." before they hung up and Kogoro said while trying to call the number back "Hey, wait! Hold on, hello?" but he couldn't reach the number.

Flashback end~

"Taku, what an annoying client," Kogoro complained again and Mouri replied "Isn't it nice that we can relax on an island away from home? Right, Conan-kun?" Edogawa nodded in answer before Mouri continued "Besides, Irene-chan seems like she's having fun." which made the 3 of them look towards Irene who was on one side of the boat looking down at the sea with wonder since even though she saw a lot of episodes and movies with boats involved, she never actually rode one.

It felt refreshing, the salty sea air, the sound of water under them, and even the cold fog, it was all so relaxing, and knowing what's gonna happen once they reach the island, Irene didn't really wanna leave the boat.

But she knows that she has to, even if she already promised to not try to save people from their fates since it might make the future worse instead of better, she knows how traumatized Edogawa will be at the end of it, so she has to be there for him. Despite him being the main character, he's still a human, if a human who's too embarrassed to show his vulnerable side because of how he was raised.

She swore to herself that she'll be the one to crack his walls and finally see the real him, the one that Aoyama Gosho didn't write about, if only because he knew it would be weird for the fans to see the great detective cry.

But that great detective is still a teenager like her, one that never really experienced the pain of lying and putting on a mask before this moment in his life, so she knows there's no way he's actually fine.
