Deciding Fate

~

"Have you ever killed someone?" She asked.

"No." He said, "And I don't know if I ever could."

IF ACE NEEDED ANYMORE PROOF that he wasn't fit to be an army leader, it's that a part of him was thrilled when he realized Nico had called him away from the brunt of the action. It wasn't necessarily in the safest direction, but they were running around the outskirts of the army, heading away from the Greek camp and towards the Roman base.

Very few people would he trust blindly.

Apparently Nico Di Angelo was one of them.

"What are we doing?" Ace asked the two boys in front of him as he blew the heads off a wild centaur and a hellhound before spitting two dracaena in half that were attacking him from behind.

"Going after Octavian." The blonde boy said as he fired an arrow into the maw of a hellhound.

Ace killed a few more monsters as he processed what that meant. After Ace searched in vain for Cato, Skylar, or Max, he started searching for Octavian on the assumption that the boy would be leading the frontlines.

Somehow it didn't shock Ace when he learned that Octavian turned tail and ran; the second things weren't going exactly as he planned. He was probably debating if he could talk his way out of his terrible mistake or if he should flee.

"Ace, Will. Will, Ace." Nico said as his midnight black sword went through the belly of a cynocephali. "You're brothers, if either of you care about that sort of thing."

Had they not been constantly getting ambushed by monster after monster, Ace probably could have put that together himself between the blonde hair and the bow.

In the break of the action Will and Ace both turned and actually looked at each other for the first time. Will had bright blue eyes, straight blonde hair, and a tall lanky build that reminded Ace so much of himself but even more like Apollo.

Brothers. Ace had been wanting to meet his kin as soon as Percy had told him about them. Now one was standing in front of him and the resemblance was uncanny. Ace didn't realize until he looked at the young and innocent kid in front of him how much he had wanted Apollo to have other children in New Rome. He didn't realize how alone he felt in that matter until this very instance where the feeling was no longer.
